Make the minimum resolution for the game 800x600?

OK, in order to fit more things in the main menu(s) (especially the lobby screen) and such, we were thinking about making the game default to 800x600.

What do you all think?

Ideally I'd like the default to be whatever the user's native screen resolution is (generally much higher than 800x600), but if the only two choices are 640 and 800 then 800 it is.

I can't see many PCs these days running at much less than 1024x768, although I'm sure to be proved wrong

Voted for 640x480 because it comes in handy if you want to create a video of WZ and you can choose to capture a ~640x480 window, if you don't need more to show whatever you wanted to show. And fewer square pixels (YES, pixel * pixel = pixel²!) means smaller files, faster upload/download etc. pp.

I'd like to point out that making more room in the lobby is easy. Get rid of the text "Warzone 2100 Lobby", and relegate the password box to a pop-up.

And, seriously, 14"? Most 14" laptops these days are 1280x800, not 640x480.

Netbooks are real .... real-ly not a proper PC A proper PC is something that sits in your room taking up way too much space and has a real keyboard with full size keys, not like laptops or nebooks (not that I hate laptops and nebooks .... ok I do 'cos I like to be able to type on a full size keyboard with all the keys exactly where they should be)

True, but I play Warzone on my laptop all the time. Far more than I do on a desktop. There are plenty of people who'd want to play Warzone on a netbook, so why not?

I'll note that most netbooks are around 800x480. 800 pixels is like minimum horizontal resolution for a Web browser, since so many sites design to that.

I agree with this. I only mentioned that some people would be using netbooks, I wholly prefer the trusty desktop.

That's because Flash is slow, not because video playback is slow.

Warzone is beginning to become too much for netbooks, but I think the current version still supports them.

640x480 is the reason i can no longer play starcraft, its a pathetic resolution thrown back from the dark agaes and should be reserved only for windoze safe mode when your graphics card is smoking, lol

if i was evil dictator for a day i would not only insist on 8x6 but i would remove all support for 6x4 altogether, but then what do i know, i laugh at people that still own VHS players
