The reasons you have different experiences with AA is because of how you maneuver your VTOLs. Rest assured, you're playing the same game. :P

I have a field of Vindicators that would disagree with you.

just make sure your aa is placed in your base area... at least 4. more is better if you can afford them.

On BETA: EVACUATE, I've had over 3 HUNDRED AA guns; 100 surrounding my base, and the rest in lines forcing the fixed-spawn-point planes to fly directly over them. They *might* get 1/2 of an airwing down before they reach my base.

I do the same in Skirmish. By abusing the stock AI, I ended up at one point getting them to build more than 66% of a 20X20 square area with nothing but AA pits, of which my Python's flew happily over and bombed their main buildings before flying right happily back.

Whatever your Vindicators are smoking to allow themselves to be hit by 2.1.X AA, I suggest taking them off of it :P

Vindicators are surface-to-air missiles. Since they're homing, they're not affected by the AA gun issues, and do tons of damage to VTOLs even in 2.1. That's what I was referring to.

Hehe, sorry about that. I got Vindicators and Vengeance confused.

Well, I haven't played WZ in a looong while (Really stoked about 2.1.x not being beta this time :) ), but i always used light bodies with tanks as close in support, media bombers for strategic work, and god-awfully-expensive hydra turretted vtols like AC-130 gunships.

That being said, despite me being into WZ for many years, I've only ever played 3 online games... so my tactics might not be that good.

That said, the Massive aerial invasion of 3 troop transporters with numerous fighter and bomber escorts attacking an AI base is awesome looking, no matter how effective it may or may not be.

Cheers,

3 troop transports isn't massive, I've done attacks 3 times that size.
Normally when I do troop drops (this is skirmish, not MP), I do 2 loaded with needle/rail, 2 loaded with lasers, 1-2 loaded with scourge.

I'm somewhat glad i couldn't get 2.1.X to work, and I'm using 2.0.10 instead (couldn't get that x11 pkg [its a mac] thing to work).

It sounds horrible, like the only way to stop VToLs before you get SAMs, is to strike back with your own.
And I dislike sams.... 1 bug suicide vtol through the middle of a base, all the sams fire, and then the main attack.

Likewise, when the AI attacks, my sams all seem to take out only 1 or 2, with massive overkill, and they never seem to stop them before they drop their payloads.

Does the stormbringer AA laser suffer the same issues as the AA guns?.
