msgfmt displays the number of translated, fuzzy and untranslated strings on compilation.
Makes it a simple formula: 2218 strings are in the game, x are translated -> x/2218*100

But Poedit also displays this in the statusbar at the bottom of the window.

Ummm, effectively, poedit is very useful but I prefer the line order disiplay because we can know what is the context.

The one with the "-" is the one in current svn and that is the correct one.
I'd prefer if you'd work on a version you regularly download from svn. (Redownload after each commit I announce here.)

Its not OBLIGATORY to download poedit, you can do it with any other text editor such as notepad, notepad++(a must for windows users, you must have it), gedit, kate...

Personally, I prefer to use the basics text editors because PoEdit don't display comments who's hidden in the text file. Also, the context influence a lot on the result. When we use a standard text editor, we're able to see the path of the file who will be modified by the po file. So we can know the context (menu, units name, technologies, campaign message, key mapping...) of the phrase. Trust me, it can be DETERMINANT when you traduce a text.

Also, TheFreeDictionarry was a useful ressource, just like the wiktionary

You need an editor which supports utf-8 text-encoding. Windows Notepad doesn't do that.
