Campaign Add-on Proposal - Need Ideas & Production Help
I want to make a new campaign. Yes, I realize it is VERY hard, and yes, I also realize that it's very likely i won't finish. However, I need advice.
1) Is it wanted in the community for a whole new campaign, from the bottom up (I'm willing), or for an add-on, like a campaign 4, 5, and 6?
2) How does the prospect of the moon/other planets sound?
3) New technologies?
4) Incorporate MP techs? (Plasma Cannon, Super-Heavy Bodies, LasSat, Satellite Uplink)
5) AI(s) allied with Player (Possible Multiplayer Campaign in this regard, viewtopic.php?f=30&t=4587)
6) New factions?
7) Scavs later in the game (if I rewrite the whole thing, cam 2 and 3)
My friend Scorpion is writing the storyline and should be here with it sometime.
Comments on the above appreciated.

Re: Campaign Rebuilt - Need Advice
yes, ill try to get the campaign storyline posted by tommorow
P.S. im working on the storyline cause i want to help, but im no good at programming
p.S.S. thats not entirely true, the storyline is one of my favorite parts of any game, and ive always thought of how awesome it would be to actually take part in making one

we've made contact with a highly pathetic enemy force, their primary weapon is the slingshot... they call themselves the "old paradigm"

A "sequel" would be great.

I've been thinking that the perfect start for a new campaign would be Bath, Britain - because that's where Pumpkin Studios was located
In any case, I recommend starting small. Very small. Make one tiny, self-contained expansion just to test your skills and the engine limitations, then you can give feedback to us developers on what we need to improve to make it easier to write campaign expansions.

It hasn't got to be exactly there; but WZ definetly has to move on other continents.Per wrote:I've been thinking that the perfect start for a new campaign would be Bath, Britain - because that's where Pumpkin Studios was located![]()

Re: Campaign Rebuilt - Need Advice
We were thinking of going beyond other continents, and to the moon
the only thing I'm thinking, is that it may be hard for some players to keep up with what team is who... that's the Greek alphabet for ya'
-----{introduction}-----
cut-scene: similar to the normal introduction, except instead of "team alpha, destination western sector", it will say "team Iota, destination, far side sector 1"
then, during the briefing while you are in the transport, the whole storyline basis comes into place:
you are one of 6 exploratory teams sent to the moon,3 to the far side, 3 to the near side, because as our theory suggests, the remaining artifacts may have somehow been transported to the moon, and we suspect nexus. unfortunately, due to a lack of resources and a limit to the power of our transports engines, we will have to supply you with new, lighter weapons tech and chassis.you have been sent to the far side of the moon, in a crater known as Metius to establish a base and search for Nexus positions. for communications purposes, the teams are as follows: team delta: near side, sector 1. team epilson: near side, sector 2. team Zeta: near side, sector 3. team Eta: far side, sector 2. team Theta: far side, sector 3.
you will have completely new weapons tech, lighter due to the cost of sending things into space:
when you land, you will have the following design options: chassis: bumblebee (light), hornet (medium), and wasp (heavy) weapons: particle chaingun (rapidfire laser) kinetic rocket launcher( a kinetic energy rocket with no warhead), and plasma mortar (a mortar with high damage) propulsion: wheels, hover, ion jet.
my plan so far involves the teams on the far side, INCLUDING YOU ,are taken over by nexus, and you resume playing as team Delta, after losing an impossible mission against nexus, who is completely unaware of what has happened to the far side teams.
i know I'm thinking in the long run, but i cant help it
how do you like the plan so far? ( constructive criticism, please )

I think you should stay on Earth.
But a single Moon away mission could be good...

Mars was big back in the NEWST days... I'm sure Rman can tell you all about it.
(Man, how many still-active forum members left remember those days? Kreuvf, Rman, me, Lav, RBL... anyone else?)

Re: Campaign Rebuilt - Need Advice
Ahhh, setting my feet on an interesting and possibly polemic topic yet again.
I think that the last "campaign" should be set on mars. I will speak more about that later, and I might have a friend who could be interested in working with us.
Thinking in a lower profile, about the "test campaign" Per suggested:
Make a scav campaign, a kind of a prologue to the main campaign O_O
I mean, lead the very first members of the Project, as scavengers, searching for a military base that can host their needs (but fighting with other scavengers, who have the same purpose)!
This one could really be short, as the tech tree would be limited anyway. Missions could be based solely on land, and the primitive techs would make up for new strategies.
Most of the missions would be "arrive at a certain location of the map with all your units", while you roam across the maps, in a journey to a military site that is said to be somewhat close to your positon
I think it would rock and serve as experience for you to gnaw on a bigger bone in the future

Re: Campaign Rebuilt - Need Advice
I think I will go with the skill test Olrox described, a sort of prologue for the campaign.
Pretty sure I need to set it in the Mountains tile set, isn't there some backstory in the FMVs about them finding the base in the Rockies rad-free?
I toyed around some in the campaign script files (which, by the way, are insanely named; or, I'm just not getting the naming scheme), I'll upload the work into the Showcase forum.

I think that's right - there's a screen showing from where the expeditionary teams were sent from, you might be able to pinpoint the location from there!XboxJosh wrote: Pretty sure I need to set it in the Mountains tile set, isn't there some backstory in the FMVs about them finding the base in the Rockies rad-free?
That friend of mine might join this experiement as well. I'll let you know when he joins us in the forums
He's currently doing some research on the source code and gatting an overall picture on what's feasible or not. He's got a knack at balancing and thinking about storylines as well - a future partner of mine on this crazy game-making stuff
