Dydo AI comments for 2.3.x

Post by DylanDog »

Guys, DyDo-AI 2.1.3 released.

I think this DyDo version is stronger then ever...it fixes two important bugs (not crashing ones but reducing a lot the AI strength...sorry for this!!!!), it improves a lot the attacking phases and the usage of VTOLs (for all personalities). The VTOL AI now researches VTOLs technologies faster.

@ Buginator/site admin...I would like to start a new Post on DyDo such that I can keep the very first thread updated by myself like this one

If I create it, can you then move all posts in this thread to the new one created by myself?

1) Are scavengers active?
2) Which OS do you have?
3) Appears only on the map Sk-Startup or in other maps too?
4) Which Tier have you chosen at the game start (T1,T2 or T3)?
5) Am I right to say that it appears always after about 35 minutes of play?

The problem appears when the AI is trying to build a structure (droidStartBuild in droid.c row 1132)

I really have no clue for now.

So, is 2.1.3 enough improved that I should try it 1v1v1v1, or should I play a 1v2v1 (like the Medium GreatRift challenge)?
On a couple of oddball maps I played recently, it became painfully obvious how much the standard AI cheats. One was the map for the King of the Hill that BlueMaxima posted in the Challenges subforum. Due to some map problems, there is no usable oil on the map. The differences between DyDo and the stock AI were enormous (DydoAI ran out of energy and units fairly quickly; stock AI made so many units and structures that obviously energy limits were not a factor), so I guess I just have to applaud Dylan for making an AI that is as much of a challenge even 1:1, but without cheating.

So I just played Great Rift, Black and Orange allied, T1, simple bases startup against Dydo 2.1.3. The one thing that I probably should have done differently is increase the AI difficulty - black and orange were at 4, gray was only at 1. All were general 1 (standard general). I have a series of 4 savegames at 10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes (40 minutes is about when I hit victory). I'm not sure what was going on with Dydo research - the weapons systems they were using seem to not be as advanced as I would have expected - mostly minirockets, heavy machineguns, flamers, and light cannon; orange did get to medium cannon I think in the end. I didn't use any particular strategy oriented at Dydo specifically, it was more or less one of my normal skirmish strategies in a medium oil situation. I had two commander led combat groups, one cyborg, one medium bodies (produced later on) and then upgrading to heavy bodies; I focussed on rockets and machine gun for weapons. The heavier group went after black, the cyborg group went after gray. I tend to start by attacking external base oil, taking as much as I can, and setting up a repair facility near the entrance to an enemy base; then I try to draw off a large defending force, then go back in after they've been dealt with.
If you want, I can upload the .zip of the 4 savegames here or on your site. I can try another round of 1v2v1 with the AIs set to 5, or I can try the 3 player map from your other thread, or I can try 1v3 and see how they hold up; I may not be able to get that done for a while though as I have an upcoming business trip (I might get one game in before I leave).

Keith

It is fine for me if you send me the savegames at my email (you can find it in my website) or you can also post them here. This would really be useful for me.

I need to figure out why DyDo technologies of the two allied AI were not developed enough, I assume because they search a bit of everything and do not specialise (this is a thing I want to change/add in the future see to-do list)

Please try to play this challenge and let me know. This is a 3 players game with the two allied DyDo having also (a bit) more oil resources then the human player.
