XFX Radeon 4650 Graphics card problem.

Post by Navvarr »

Hi there, i've been enjoying Warzone 2100 ever since it was first released for the old PS1 and PC.

10+ years later and its still a really great game.

Anyway, my problem is that I've just upgraded my graphics cards from a Geforce 7950 GT 512Meg - which allowed me to play Warzone 2100 -to a Radeon 4650 1GIG - and I now get a 'exception handler failed with error 1400 -unable to open window' -or something similar.

Anyone got a solution?

-Its obviously my new graphics card thats the problem - is there an issue with Warzone 2100 and Radeon cards?

Would appreciate any help- really want to be able to still play Warzone!!

On what System are you?
Do you have current drivers?
Do other OpenGL apps work?
Nightly builds available here see buildbot for more infos about them

i think there are enough Radeon users here; i'm having no problems running even master builds on my low-end Radeon HD3450.

Thanks for the quick answers.
Got an asrock 1689 motherboard with 2 gig of ram. Its running windows xp pro. The graphics card is an agp slot.
Everything used to run well before I changed the card. I'm assuming Its a card / driver problem since Thats the only change.
Can't say if open Gl applications work- is there an easy way to tell?
Cheers

Can you download and install the latest drivers from AMD?

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Tell us if that fixes your issues.

Hi, I tried that- downloaded the latest drivers and I'm getting a back 'dos' type box with

error :05:52:07: [Top Level ExceptionFilter] Exception handler failed to create file!

I've unistalled the alpha- and reinstalled the latest beta.

All that happens now is that the screen goes black -like the game is going to launch -then it disappears and i'm back to my windows screen.

Tried it a few times- same thing every time.

got any firewalls or AV programs? I know some won't allow the game to run unless you allow them, try running the game ina window. create a shortcut to the exe, then go to the shortcut properties, then add

--window

after the text in the target text, you should have space after the comma, see if that helps, help to see what could be stopping it, I couldn't run the master trunk version for a while, as outpost pro needed my permission to run it, but the popup wouldn't appear untill after the game tries to load, but I couldn't see the popup at all, until I tried running the game in a window

if that doesn't help, not really sure, don't have an ati / amd card, but that is all I can think of

What language are you playing WZ with ?
What is your profile directory named ? (need full path)

The above message wouldn't happen on a gfx card switch though, there must be something more that was done.
and it ends here.

Making progress now:

Uninstalled the 4650 drivers- deleted all the Nvidia folders.

Uninstalled various programs (like google earth -which stopped working)

-anyway- reinstalled AGP drivers - and graphics card drivers and then google earth (which worked)- then Warzone Beta 2.3.8- and its working- only thing is that its running slow -about 10th the normal speed- so i'll need to look further into this and report back.

Any help and suggestions appreciated. cheers

aaarrgh -back to square one.

I updated my 4650 drivers to the latest drivers and Warzone refuses to launch.

I get a black screen for about a half second then nothing- no errors- just nothing launches.

Google earth is running fine though- so at least i've fixed something.

Any suggestions?

Happy days- managed to get Warzone running on my PC again.

I took the plunge and did a full reinstall- formatted my PC- back up all my essentials and reinstalled Windows XP Pro.

-Seems that even though the graphics card was reports as working - and indeed was running Crysis 2- it just couldn't handle Warzone 2100
