Warzone2100 Ubuntu packages

Post by xtradeb » 18 Nov 2020, 23:14

I have packaged Warzone2100 3.4.1 for Ubuntu and made it available here: https://launchpad.net/~xtradeb/+archive/ubuntu/play .

Although, I think the debian/rules could be slightly improved, the resulting packages are complete and properly aligned with the official packages. So, no conflicts or artifacts upon upgrade.

Let me know if this is of interesting and/or if there are any improvements I can make.

I also noticed that:

- the "pkg/dpkg" directory from the source is fairly outdated and no longer works.
- the watch file from the Official Ubuntu distro is correctly pointing at sourceforge.net, but for some reason, maybe the way you organized the latest releases, it doesn’t pick them up.

One last comment before finishing. As part of the packaging, I installed the game and played it (for the first time) to test it. I have played most real time strategy games, but this was the first time I felt really surprised in this kind of game.
Not being such a good player, I usually let it drag while I amass troops. But in this case, the game stopped attacking and was doing exactly the same out of sight under fog of war, in a tiny area in the corner of the screen. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered this. Let's just say things did not end up well for me. I'm not sure if this is a feature, but I was really impressed. Great job guys!
