Font Issue: Letters show up as Blocks in Vista

I'm running Warzone 2100 v2.2.1 on my Acer Aspire 4930 Laptop which has a C2D 2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and an Intel GMA 4500 Integrated GPU, over Vista (32 Bit), with native resolution of 1280x800

When I run Warzone, the display seems totally messed up. All I get are white blocks (squares & rectangles) instead of letters. I tried experimenting with the settings to see if it would go away. Tried fullscreen, windowed, no shadows, different resolution (800x600). No luck. I did try to change the font config file (XML) a bit, but I don't really know enough about the config file to make any real changes.

FYI, the video seems fine (The start-up background pic shows up fine, and I can even start a game, but with the game too displaying blocks instead of normal text). The sound too is fine. I believe only the font rendering is messed up. Just to be clear, I'm running this on a native English Vista.

Any tips on what can i do to fix the font issue?

I have a Vista Laptop too, Its Home Premium, but its Toshiba, cant remember the modal though, but its also like your screen width too... it has a 2.GB memory, but nearly no graphics, however, (Which i find weird), it runs as good as it does on the PC, and that's Powerful, with a 2.GB memory, 8600 gForce Graphics card, and they both run the same....

This sounds more like a font rendering problem rather than a font problem given the fact that you are using English. Or said another way, Intel on-board graphics strikes again!

Usual things to try are
- turn off Aero theme
- update video driver
- turn down hardware acceleration.

go to temp-folder, delete the "fontconfig" folder
go back to warzone-folder, into "fonts"
edit fonts.conf-file and delete line 26

and try again. perhaps there's an incompatibility with a windows-font?

There is also a new version of QuesoGLC that fixes some intel specific issues... but this is for linux AFAIK.
