Idea: Replace original videos with realtime rendering

Post by Powzone »

It's all said in the subject. :D

Now I had this idea around 2 weeks ago, when I was playing through campaign. I noticed, except for a few cutscenes, most videos look the same, by this meaning:

1. You see the Project/New Paradigm/Collective/NEXUS Animation most times something happens.
2. In most vids you see a part of a map and some cross going somewhere and/or some buildings.

3. There are some videos with unique content, like the intro or when going to the beta stage. The ones explaining cyborgs (where they are walking and shooting on the right side) or when more intel is given about NEXUS/Dr. Reed.

The small "system videos" could be kept as they are. They appear quite small and nobody ever mentioned, that these are ugly, too! :D

I know that this would mean a lot of work, but maybe it would be a way to get rid of the "ugly" originals. Another plus for this is the size of the game. It would shrink alot, as only the sound files have to be ripped out of the vids.

We would need a team of people to do that for the GFX and animation scripts. I know that the game will be ported to Lua so it would be smart to wait for that, before starting anything and doing the same work twice (at least the scripting part).

Although most modern games use scripting for cutscenes instead of videos for example Call of Duty 6 - Modern Warfare II or to mention a very old game: Kingpin - Life of Crime.

This was just some thought for the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuture of WZ far far away!! ;)

So the flight path of the vtol was scripted? This is nearly exactly, what I was referring to. :) Just adding some borders with maybe 1 or 2 small animations in it, could do the trick. :D

actually, no it was not scripted. it was all done by hand. single frame by frame till i had the right animation. :stressed: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :3 that is if your speaking to the ones with no sound. i didnt want to waste too much time back then on a concept... :3 :3 :3

For FPS Machinma you have to script. For WZ Machinma, not really essential. You can "stage" most anything in Debug Mode, slowing down the game speed and utilizing the "tracking" camera. Then do continued editing in post production vid SW. :lecture:

A feature to have an alternate display output without any of the UI would be very useful/necessary to this if it were ever done.
