AH I figured it out. It was my OBJ exporter . It was trying to triangulate nonexistent faces not based upon the mesh but upon the uv map . So instead I am just triangulating before export . Thanks for you help
Thanks mangust because of those, I have done the whole thing now not just mapping the uvs but also the texture! Here is the final model and texture However, just for the record: I hate blender.
