How does this look for halftrack concept (should the wheel be armored or not?):

Re: Models by macuser
The downside to the wheel being armored is that it would look no different from the top from the tracks. Unless the wheel armour was not connected to the track armor... but that would look funny

Re: Models by macuser
You did spend quite some work on the rim, I can see that, depicting the break disk, hub cap and polished aluminum effect and all. But, well, it looks way too much custom car for a military vehicle. These usually have more the truck-like sort of rims, massive, lots of bolts, painted matt green, high-diameter tires. As far as armor is concerned, I say put some guard over the wheel. Either make it a separate piece from the track guards or connect wheel guard and track guard as low as possible in the manner of a foot-board. I guess the latter is what contemporary designers of military hardware would do.

Check. That's one of these rugged rims the military would buy. Coming to think of it, you could reduce the width if the wheel to, say, two third of the track. That would achieve a more realistic look for an off-road tire and set it apart from the track even if the two were to share a guard.
By the way: Does Art Revolution have any need for a military consultant? While I may not be qualified in any way to produce actual artwork, I did spent several years with german army rangers and have pretty good insight in what armed forces need and why. And I'm pretty good with a pencil, at least good enough for concept sketches.

If you want to make concept sketches with details, they're really helpful.
Half of the modeling work is figuring out what details to put where.
Of course the sketches would have to follow the original design, although they can be interpreted quite freely.

If you tell me what you want to do next, I would be honored to sketch something up. Is there an easy way to access and print the original texture pages or views of the original models? That would make it far easier to get the proportions right and figure out what the original artist had intended to depict.
