So many ways of awesome. :good:

I suppose these are meant be flying versions of ordinary units, rather than hit and run units like the VTOLs?

yup, they shouldnt need rearm pads! But it would limit them to only light weapons!

Thanks guys :)
Ok, so here we go, I made a simple mod that replaces vtol models with helicopters. VTOL flame animations are replaced with animated rotors. The rotors are not so visible in the screenshot, I've been thinking of increasing opacity, but the current is made by rendering sampled motion blur on an actual rotor, so it should be realistic.
I also made a zip with all the stuff conveniently named for anyone who wants to make their own mod.

The license is CC0 as usual ;)

Cool!!
Is this only a graphical change?

For the sake of the philosophical argument: Doesn't replacing VTOL with helicopters breakes the concept of air fighting in WZ?
As far as I know, VTOL must land or keep in motion, while choppers can stay in one place in air. Maybe this could bring new type of strategy like ambushing from air in places hovers can't reach, or mounting repair, truck or even sensors on them?

I'd love to have a chopper propulsion available for modding. Something that doesn't need reloading. With weaker weapons to balance it.

Damn, that helicopter propulsion looks good!

IMO I think that the helicopter propulsion shouldn't need to reload, but can only bear light-to-medium weaponry and be a little bit faster than VTOL, and have a little bit less health. Not sure if that would balance something, IMO it would do.

EDIT: Also Jorzi, shouldn't the Wyvern have own propulsion? I don't think that any of the three propulsions fit it...

Maybe make the Wyvern propulsion look like that one of V-22 Osprey?

EDIT 2: Sorry for that much of edits, but iap has a good idea. I imagine sky-crane units that can lift ground units and transport them fastly into another place.
I have changed this signature because a developer thinks it's offensive.

Helicopter propulsion should be slower than VTOL IMHO. And I think it should need to reload.

Assuming helicopter VTOLs will be available before jet VTOLs, opponents will be less prepared for them. So they should be weaker, slower and require rearming.

BTW, went to see Avengers and loved their Quinjet: image 1, image 2, image 3.

As I said earlier, do whatever you want, my mod is only there to quickly show off the new graphics ;)
Currently, the helicopters are just vtol:s in disguise.
I make the graphics - now use them 8)

Love the vtols, can you make this mod compatible for any 2.3 version? I know they are the older version of the game but I still like playing them.

Unfortunately the helicopter animation uses some new flag options which are only implemented in 3.1 and later versions so that would require some extensive fiddling...
