Quick Match Multiplayer Mode

Post by Shadow Wolf TJC »

Given the amount of abusive players that are found arranging and/or joining matches on multiplayer, and the amount of players that seem to want to have fair matches with anonymous players (instead of arranging them on irc), maybe we could add some kind of "Quick Match Mode" (like the ones found in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, or StarCraft 2) onto Warzone 2100's multiplayer mode, where players are automatically matched up against random opponents, on a randomly-selected map that's always symmetrically balanced, and never custom-made? For example, on one match, players could be playing on 2c-Vision, while in another match, they could be playing on 4c-Pyramidal. Although this wouldn't prevent the bad players from joining, it could very well cut down on the amount of griefing that players would experience.

How will this solve any of the issues you have stated ?
In short, until you can remove the host from the equation, then this don't really solve anything.

I'd imagine that those that choose to enter a "Quick Match" would be put into a lobby, where they wait for the game to detect another person that's also looking for a "Quick Match". Once at least one person is found, then the game would arrange a multiplayer match with one of the randomly-selected players found in the lobby, assigning one of the players as the host. (For now, the matchmaking service would not be able to reliably match players up based on rank, win-loss ratio, or disconnection frequency, though it may be able to match them up based on connection speed or map preferences.)

Also, unlike a normal multiplayer match, the host would not be able to kick any players at will during a "Quick Match". All they can do is leave. Moreover, once the original host leaves, the game is temporarily paused until another player is made the host (assuming that more than 2 players are present on the map).

You can still get annoying user randomly assigned, just spam accounts, from the pool it picks from.
Since it is open source, you can't prevent people from kicking, or doing anything else, so I still think this won't help much, if at all.

It needs to be server controlled.

If this is about ranking up fair and square, then yes, we'd need these ranks to be server-controlled. However, if it's just about getting into a fair matchup, then we wouldn't necessarily need to worry about rank, right?

Instead of Rank Call it Reputation...
I see this forum if someone gets a bad reputation they just change there name and continue on a fresh path till they screw that up and then a new name.
Just a observation.
