AI Well Witching in Master Version

Post by JDW »

There is a new feature in the Master release which allows a player to see blueprints of what his allies are planning to build in a skirmish/multiplayer game and it's pretty awesome. I'm sure you all know about it.

However, if your ally is a Nexus AI or the Semperfi AI, you will find that the AI has a sixth sense when it comes to finding the location of the oil wells on the map as it is able to plan Oil Derrick blueprints at locations that have not yet been explored. In my opinion, this cheating tactic of the AI is sort of shared with the human player. But it also may be really trivial and harmless. Curious to know what everyone else thinks.

The reasoning behind it is that the AI, like most human players, should "remember" starting placements of derricks on a map. Otherwise the AI gets a huge disadvantage compared to human players, and it really does not need that.

Well, actually, you too can order an oil derrick on an unseen power source if you click exactly on it.

Fair enough. Makes sense that the AI needs to cheat. This was never the issue of concern to me though.

When the AI is a human player's ally, the human player is able to see the location of the oil wells even on unexplored terrain as the AI has marked them with derrick blueprints. In some cases the human player may be able to capture the same wells even before his AI ally does.

Maybe the blueprint of oil derricks that the AI has planned to build, as an exception, should only be made visible to it's allies once the terrain has been explored?

It makes sense that allied blueprints should not be visible if that part of the map has not yet been explored.

I agree, completely.
