where there originally supposed to be 2 different kinds?

we see the in-game "strike-VTOL's" im sure everyone knows what they look like.
but the vtol from the original fmv that we see(saw) stalking through a city looks nothing at all in any way like those in game.
indeed, it looked more like a airborne weapons platform then the vtols we have.

Huh? The Resurrected version has no videos. What does the "other VTOL" look like?

If it's just a VTOL that flies around shooting things instead of using a 'bomber-run' style attack pass, then it could just be any old VTOL with a cannon as it's weapon.

Yeah, that kind of VTOL is probably more of a pseudo-tiltrotor-aircraft-gunplatform-thing rather than a pure VTOL, it zips around, translates, climbs dives, etc. like a helicopter, but definitely wouldn't have a high top-speedĀ  becuase its unstreamlined. That said, seeing that thing circle around a project tank with all the nozzles, etc. swivelling and working in union before the AT rocket hits the target; in a word, nice.

i would agree with NucNut, except that VTOL does not refer to a vehicle type so much as a vehicle characteristic -- helicopters are vtol, and you could go so far as to say your 3 year old nephew is vtol according to the strict definition of terms, though you do only ever hear it used in the context of aerial vehicles (which would normally, or otherwise be capable of horizontal take off and landing).

for the aircraft depicted in that render, i'd be a bit worried about its stability -- it would need a massive gyro, or several extremely powerful ones, just to keep from flipping upside down, since it only has two sources of thrust.

are stability issues valid given even current aircraft?
the f-23 has only 2 points of thrust in hover, and the f-117 is un-flyable without its computer control systems.
