Heard of it never tried it though. This and your other post makes WZ's currents graphics look like child's play haha. Imagine if WZ had those kind of graphics nowadays?? The pure awesomeness??

Indie, freeware, built on Spring, 600MB dl, distro thru Desura and Steam Greenlight. Necessarily tethered to both because of the Spring Engine updates and MP syncing. All in all, a very interesting project -and not just 'cause of the eye-crack, imho. Here is the devs site:

http://www.evolutionrts.info/

Cool, mature, and easy going approachable.

No Cam but recently started releasing Mission Maps - kinda like our challenge maps. GPM complexity-wise, WZ is in an entirely different universe. Frankly, WZ still stands alone in that respect.

Worth checking out if you can meet the sys reqs. Some unit differentiation takes getting used to at a quick glance, compared to WZ, but there are very few in comparison as well. Command units wield EMP. There is stealth tech. "Barricades" is an interesting GPM. Dedicated UAV Scout Unit is sweet too.

Game seems literally impossible to play. Downloaded, but there's no way to compile and/or run it. Downloading, fixing the compile errors and running something called spring, it's still impossible to run the game. There's some kind of lobby, where it downloads the game (again!), and still fails to run it. After downloading some addon separately, it's possible to look at the game, but still not play it, since it just says I won without letting me play. Adding bots doesn't help. Adding more bots makes the system freeze unless switching to text mode, and killing all spring processes (and still impossible to play)...

Best bet Cyp, is to talk directly to Forboding Angel, Creator and Lead Dev:

http://www.evolutionrts.info/download/ Will tell you how and also addresses some Linux distro issues.

Already saw that, but it doesn't say anything at all about how to actually START the game. There's no information anywhere on the internet about it. Maybe the game is actually just a bunch of mockup screenshots...

There are 29 YouTube GPM vids:

Valve had to review the game itself to even consider it for Steam. Ditto Desura. It's Open Source. There is a Code Repository. Members of the Spring RTS Engine community have helped in its dev over the last 4-5 years.

Still think Ben, aka Forb, could be of assistence.

You can ask him directly here:

Hi guys :-) I'm Forboding Angel (ben woods). I'd be happy to help as much as I can.

Wrt the existing questions and stuff talked about...

Currently linux is a bit of a grey area. Not by choice though. Currently there is no static build of the engine, which prevents me from having a desura<->linux install. As a result, it comes down to a "if you aren't using buntu, compile and pray". Usually the engine compiling doesn't really cause much trouble for most linux users, but of course every now and then you have the ones that just won't work no matter how many kicks and curses you deliver.

I'm hoping that when v92 of the engine comes out this will be a thing of the past as static builds will be released. This will allow me to give linux users the awesome user experience that windows users currently get. Currently windows users get all the cool toys where linux users have to do damn near everything manually. It's a sucky situation, but one I don't really have much control over.

I tried for nearly a month to come up with a workable static build, using CDE and various other schemes but came up empty handed each time.

There actually is a mac build, but there is only one engine developer dedicated to making mac builds a reality, and so it is temperamental to some extent. Ymmv. http://springrts.com/wiki/Download (next to the apple - Yes we know it isn't the real logo, but Apple likes to sue people over silly stuff).

Once I was made aware of the thread over on the spring forums, I noticed Meowsqueak in one of my dedicated hosts (autohost), observing a game (weird one too... both guys sat around for 30 minutes and never attacked each other till the very end). I said hi several times but he never said anything, so dunno what that's all about. Regardless, no worries :-)

If there is anything I can help with, lemmie know! Also, there are tons of resources for the game and to see it and learn about it, etc etc.

Here is a list in no particular order (copy and pasted from my lobby topic):

No worries the O _ o smily on this board looks all pissed off. I wasn't upset, just ... well O _ o lol. I never perceived that emotion as one expressing disapproval, but that makes me wonder what others think. Anyway, thanks haha :D

Thanks, Fordoding Angel, for clarifying. :)

Good to see the greater RTS community close knit. Kinda reminds me of A. Dumas - "All for one, one for all." :3

In my own head I've always equated the O_o smiley with "WTF !". :lol2: But that's just me. Native New Yorker, wouldn't you guess.
