Re: something I am working on.
I don't see any issue with modern computers handling that many polys (as long as that kind of level-of-detail doesn't go over to everything else as well), and even with the rendering performance in wz, 20 or so of those tanks on screen probably wouldn't be too much of an issue. however, with the wz ...

Re: tank tracks movement
As (a) forward gears are usually more powerful than backwards (assume that, am no tank driver) and (b) amor is more powerful on the front (another assumption out of thin air), this sounds like a very logical step. afaik, traditionally if there's an enemy shooting at you (that is a reasonable threat...

Moreover, light is so stifling... perception be damned, I'd go with black.

yeah, good idea. and no balancing issues involved that i can think of as being possible, though we'll hope that the AI maintainers can keep up

Re: Main Menu Proposal
would it be possible for each of the main buttons to host several child buttons? this way would take care of a numerous amount of dialogs. yeah, awesome idea -- perhaps each button that is clicked could create several sub-menu buttons that go outward, until something more traditional is needed, suc...

Originally Pumpkin had plans to have Research Facilities be able to specialize in different topics. Instead of a generic research module, you would add on different specialty labs. This feature never made it into the game. yep. in the concept artwork that's listed as the power *something* lab (the ...

Re: Everything you wanted to know about Warzone's FMVs.
The plan is to announce the liberation of the FMVs and soundtracks together with news of beta3. did that plan also involve having those videos working in warzone at beta3, in addition to them working out-of-the-box for the campaigns if available? if not, it'll be tricky, since newcomers will probab...

Re: Inserting Music
i don't think transcoding from one lossy format to another is ever a good idea... it's like cutting off a toe so you can fit in a box better... mp3 and ogg make you take different toes -- if you go from one to the other, you lose both.

Re: problem with linux64bit and text in menus in 2.1
assuming you're using a distro (if not, you would've figured it out already), look for and install a software package/tarball/whatever with 'dejavu' in the name. it's a true-type font library. my guess is that this is the critical error, since it didn't terminate after the OpenAL errors. as for the ...

Maybe have the map always vivible in a certain part of the interface with player start locations on it? Always annoyed me that the map image disappeared so quickly when seleting a map, maybe pop-up tooltip on mouse roolover of the map name that shows you a thumbnail of the map layout? ha! it always...

Re: YAIV - Yet Another Intro Video
i agree with arcalane -- i don't think anything can go wrong with that. of course, coyote's notes are appealing as well -- perhaps the plate could be bent up. or rather, to accentuate the 'warzone' aspect, i envision the user seeing (on the sand) the shadow of a classic tank roll by (in wz terminolo...

Re: interface ideas
not that anybody likes this idea, but... for the *main menu* (not necessarily in-game stuff), we could use a gui tk that has a native opengl backend. i know that fltk and qt4 have this, and possibly gtk2 since its recent integration with cairo (not that i'm at all a fan of gtk performance), and i st...
