Re: Accuracy straw poll
For instance, Blizzard have made A HELLA LOT OF decisions before even creating the first unit for the game. So have we (or more precisely: Pumpkin). I'm not suggesting we reset everything to 0 and start from that... Ok, now imagine we notice that cannons are too strong. But only if more than 5 tile...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Actually, incidendary bombs, plasma cannons etc. *can* be changed independently of the pure flamers. It's not as if there is a fixed 1:1 relationship here. We can reduce the strength of flamer weapons by 5%, and this will neither make a rocket+flamer strategy useless, and it's actually fairly easy t...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Too bad that you are only complaining about the game not being the same as 2.3.9; you apparently didn't see my suggestion of having two types of accuracy. Aiming accuracy and chance-to-damage-on-impact. "Balanceability" is bullshit, sorry. We don't have an unstable balance either. It's not...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Not keeping the chances to hit somewhere around the actual value will cause the entire game to require a new balance. in other word, a machine gun with an accuracy of 40% in 2.3.9 MUST HAVE an accuracy even worst at full range with a realistic engine. Otherwise, the balance is f**ked. Then the bala...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
@Iluvalar I do not understand you either. I do not see any instability, which would prevent balancing. All I can see (in your second post) is that the game is too complicated for your theoretical model . Which is a failure of your theoretical model for balancing, not of the actual game. Yes, your mo...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Actually, wesnoth is in some points simpler than WZ. First of all, it is turn based, then it is tile based, too. Yet, to quote from the wesnoth forums: There is no way to just have balancing done by some magic formula. This simply does not work due to too many factors being involved. From there I al...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Thanks, Per. Good examples on why we need to rebalance anyway. Do you remember the sonic tank in Dune II? That could be an interesting addition to the tech tree, too: sonic/shockwave weapons for late game? They also had a super heavy slow tank, which would cause an explosion when destroyed. Plus, I w...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
As obviously our current balance is already broken , we will need to rebalance anyway. E.g. flamers are too strong, yet also behave irritatingly because they randomly fire 1 tile off, even at short distance (= 45 degrees off!). Artillery overkilling is another example. Since we need to fix the balan...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Hi all, Instead of speculating how things may be fun and how they may not, or what may be realistic and which is not (WZ will never be realistic, it's fiction!) - actually try out the available patches . I have made a patch that is probably more realistic, and hopefully still fun, although it raises...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
If you want to play starcraft, go play starcraft with its simpler shooting logic (and, actually, 2D flat maps). If you want to play WZ 1.1, then go play WZ 1.1. I do like the gameplay of WZ 3.1, and I do have the impression that a lot of other people do so, too. In my opinion, warzone has always bei...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Actually, if you shoot straight up with an error of ~5°, and if you shoot at 45° with an error of ~5°, the results will be quite similar, if you shoot up to the same height.

Re: Free perlin noise ! :D
Visually appealing is a more accurate description. Note that for WZ, we need an interesting gameplay much more than nice visuals. As mentioned, I found Perlin noise to be useful for certain things - such as random opening of cliffs, by doing a Perlin noise blur. But try to use above Perlin noise te...

Re: Accuracy straw poll
Personally, I'd interpret accuracy as the chance to land a "direct hit" on the target. Many weapons in Warzone 2100, including Light Cannons, Mortars, and Railguns, do more damage on a direct hit than they do through splash damage. But the chance to hit as such is rather meaningless with ...
