So what exactly is the problem with allowing the game to call FMVs that use a free codec, and people independently transferring their retail FMVs to that format? Nobody associated with the project is distributing the original FMVs, the software can't even USE the original FMVs, but owners of the ret...

We have to improvise, except for FMV and music? Should I apologise for not reading a file that comes with the sourcecode I didn't download?
Anyway, it doesn't answer the question. If the content of the cutscenes is free, then changing the format to something open should be possible.

IIRC the FS2 SCP had a similar situation with Interplay's cutscene format, but they were able to convert them to another open format and use those. If the content of the cutscenes was liberated, would that be possible here?
