You just register for a forum account, and use those credentials on trac.

TIA!

I confirm that it's confusing, I made a simple patch and wanted to contribute it upstream. Just before submitting a pull request on GitHub, I noticed that you favored a different workflow, so I tried to comply, but couldn't find a way to register on the trac instance to open a ticket. Hopefully I googled for the issue and landed there :) - still more work than I like to do to contribute a 5 lines patch, but I respect that you prefer a specific workflow, even if with a slightly higher barrier for leaf contributions.

As you noticed, the main page goes to http://developer.wz2100.net/ which has the information at the bottom, but, trac is difficult to change in regards to the stuff you mentioned.

It was on the TODO list, but, other things take priority these days. :stressed:
In case someone wants to, feel free to submit a patch for trac that takes care of the above issues.

I tried to create a new bug report which eventually succeeded. But I had some troubles:

I followed the "new ticket" link on http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/BugReporting.
However, if you're not logged in, you see
You are currently not logged in. You may want to do so now.

Error: Forbidden
TICKET_CREATE privileges are required to perform this operation. You don't have the required permissions.
Once you're logged in, you see the much more helpful message, but at that time it's no longer useful:
NOTE: You must have a forum account register and be logged into trac login to be able to create new tickets, and reply to old tickets.
I was searching quite some time for a trac signup link, but there is none -only a login link.

Afterwards, I noticed that there's information about signup at the bottom of the home page
http://developer.wz2100.net/ - but it's easily overlooked.

Maybe it's just me having problems. Anyway, I think one or more of the following suggestions would make the signup process more obvious:
  • Make the trac signup info more visible
  • add signup info to the BugReporting page
  • show the help message on the newticket page if you're not signed in
