Ive been working on a windows map editor for WZ in VB 2008.
So far it does most of what editworld can do. It can't export as a map - I gave up trying to work out the format.
It has improved texture brushes and brushes for cliffs and roads.
Should I release it as is? I'm an amateur programmer so it has some bugs.

Re: A Map Editor
Of course. Release early, release often. It is the only way to go about itFlail13 wrote:Should I release it as is?
If you need any help figuring out the map format, just ask in the coding forum.
Re: A Map Editor
Good work like this is ensured to be supported by everyone who can!
It's a good effort, maybe it'll even get me to work on WZ maps

Re: A Map Editor
Please release it and continue working on it!
Re: A Map Editor
ok here it is...
is it ok to supply the WZ content with it? - the PIE and texpage files are included.
A WZ Map Editor v0.1
2.46MB: http://www.filedropper.com/wzme
Extract everything before running setup.exe.
It installs to a directory determined by windows. If you want to know where it is press f12 in the program.
one of the bugs is the program wont close without force under windows 7 (and possibly others)
Theres no instruction in the program and many of the controls have no button to click so here are the controls:

Re: A Map Editor
Is it possible to make map editor without installation ? Just Unzip & Go.
I waited 30 mins until framework will install, however I have it already installed, than after reboot installation says something about cache version and closes.
I havn't managed to install Map editor.

Re: A Map Editor
I am having same problems as Terminator.
Re: A Map Editor
if you have all the requirements installed the exe alone might work.
http://www.filedropper.com/executable
If it runs at all download these data files too and put them in the same directory.

Re: A Map Editor
these are listed in vb as prerequisites:
net framework 3.5 SP1
windows installer 3.1
but i found TAO framework was a prerequisite but not included in the last setup file
here is one with it included. i dont know if this will fix the problem.

Re: A Map Editor
That TAO framework is what I need cause error report was filled with TAOsomething, and I already have those 2 on top.Flail13 wrote:these are listed in vb as prerequisites:

I'll let you know when I test it.
EDIT:
I tested it and I love it.
But there is lot more place for improvements.
As it can export to *.lnd, I'll use it and compile map in EW, then convert it to *.wz...
Expect my maps soon!!!
About exporting to *.wz, this should help you:

Re: A Map Editor
.
Tested. Though I need to spend a lot more time with it I can already tell where it is gonna be a vast improvement over the 3 versions of EW I've worked with over the last 10 years and logged thousands of hours on.
Yes, there is room for improvement (that is simply par for the course for any creative effort), but already it's more fun and powerful than those 3 versions of EW I've worked with. Right now I especially love painting mountains and valleys.... AND painting bodies of water with perfect shorelines is a snap compared to the endless tedium of those other EWs.
As I get to know it better I'll have more useful feedback and specific feedback. Even at this early stage I can already see how your Map Editor will obsolesce the current version power wise and also be more enjoyable to work with for Newbies than 32EW.
Very fine work and much needed too.
The Tao Framework will, if I'm understanding correctly, also facilitate cross-platform development down the road which is also a great boon for this project (probably need to mix in OpenTK code for Linux, I think.... but I'm no coder to say for sure).

Re: A Map Editor
It is incredible, I'm having endless fun making my first map, lol xD
I mean, I've tried EW already and it was like... ewwww
This editor, however, is much more than o.k.! great work indeed.
I'm really missing the Undo feature, though: hopefully you'll get some help with the development of this grade-A tool.
Hmm, the view range it's kind of weird (at a moderately far zoom, many tiles disappear from view), that's not very good if you want to have an overall look at the map. Maybe this can be fixed?

Re: A Map Editor
Any chance you could collaborate with someone who knows how to port stuff to mac OS X?
I'm really dreading trying to remember how to set up wine, and get a map editor working on this Mac, like I did with my last one (though the last one wasn't working with full functionality...).
