Attn Artists, decal work done, but could use improvement

Post by Buginator »

Update: 3/16/10
All the decals have been "fixed", however, they could still be improved upon...

We need people to help us fix the graphics for the upcoming 2.3 3.0 beta release.

The problem is, the current tileset(s) needs to be redone, so that all the decals will at least start to look better than what we have now.

The first tileset (tertilesc1hw-128/*.png) is mostly all done.
The 2nd & 3rd tileset (tertilesc2hw-128/*.png & tertilesc3hw-128/*.png) need a few fixes.

What do you need to do? Well, we need to have a transparent background around the decal. That is pretty much it. :)
The 128x128 pngs (everything but the terrain textures) are also in need of a remake, since these are up scaled from the original 64x64, so it looks blocky/pixelated.

If you want to help, then please specify which tile you are working on, so we don't get everyone doing the same tiles!

While all tiles need improvements, the tiles with "F" need fixing the most, in this point in time.
and it ends here.

We need those in versions of all these resolutions: 16x16, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128. Generally, resampling down works well enough (remember to use Bicubic Sharper).

edit: @Zarel, *groan* it takes forever, but ok, bucubic is rubbish paint.net's super sampling is much better :D

edit(again): I'll just zip them now, expect a load more in a while.
The .zip contains all the tiles marked with f in c2 and c3 (which I think needed to be done). I'll get round to fixing more of them tommorow.

Here you go, all done, I also slightly feathered some of the already done ones. I have done pretty much all of them, including the now unused ones, some of them were not easy to cut out and don't look to good (e.g. some of the c3 partial snow tiles).
The .zip contains all of them in each of the sizes.

Nice :)

Much appreciated!! :3
Will post what we have done so far in the next message.

(Note, I see you had tile 69 in C3 done, but not in the zip file?)

I will commit what you have done so far, tonight.

Here is C1:
Set C1
Set C1
I wonder if it would just be better to just have tumble-weed/shrub type gfx for 0,1,9-11,27,29,29,34-36,38-44,48,53,54,76 ?
We just don't need the background for any of those...

This is C2:
set C2
set C2
tile 62,67 need updating still... most of them with the hard borders as well. They just don't fit in with the new terrain textures.
Nice job on the rocks!

And finally, C3:
set C3
set C3
Again, nice job on the rocks!
The grass patches, seem to have the same issue as the tumble-weed/shrub type gfx. They just don't mesh well with the textures we use for the terrain.
tiles 19,20,21 don't need the background as well, just the cement(?) part...
and it ends here.

am new .. I would like to help but do not quite understand what inspiration for the tiles that need to be measuring 128 x128? I found that the invention? must be seamless? special type desert environments?
