Do you want the unit order delay removed from 3.x?

Post by bendib »

If you are as thoroughly annoyed by the unit order delay in the 3.1 betas as me and want it changed before a final release, post +1 here, followed by whatever else.

How exactly you want it to be removed, and which of the two delays are you talking about? (pathfinder delay or network synchronization delay)

Of course i want pathfinding to be instant. Also, i'd prefer the game inself (not just units) to freeze completely until all orders are synchronized. If that is what you mean, +1. If you would prefer units to be desynchronized between machines but remove the delay, i wouldn't agree to that.

NoQ: I was thinking the same thing but didn't have the guts to say it.

and how exactly could a person go about doing that? especially if they have no idea how to mess around with WZs coding and stuff in the first place. that makes no sense to me.

I think the point was, that the devs make the game as responsive as they can. Therefore, if you can make it faster than that, go ahead.

Should the question be understood as "do you want 3.1.0 to remain unreleased until the delays are reduced considerably?" or something like that? :hmm:

It is not really a delay. Although little mention has been made, according to Buginator, WZ has been re-architected and is now the World's Fastest Turn-Based Real-Time Strategy game.

The current design for MP games is to have everything in sync. That means, everything is... in sync, unlike pre 3.1/master builds where everything isn't.

That means that everyone must wait for the person with the highest lag to tell the host what they are doing. That takes time.
That is why you see the "Zzz".

Would you rather have teleporting units ? How about randomly exploding units ? Units that come back to life after you thought were dead ?

Bottom line is, that is the way this was designed.
If you can do better, then, by all means, do something better, and put it on trac.

Since this thread isn't useful and lacks any specifics on how to solve the problem, going to lock it.

If you have designs or ideas for a new implementation, then make a new thread, in the correct section.

Have a nice, non teleporting day!
