Me and some friends are trying to do a form of team play using alliances, however we have no idea how to make an alliance with each other.
Any ideas?

If you're using the version from the download page, press "Numpad Enter" while in game, and offer an alliance from that menu.
If you're using the SVN build, then you can just choose "locked teams" on the options screen when creating the game, and make sure you all pick the same team number.
