Warzone Online
Recently I have installed Springs...and its Lobby has inspired me to make the same Lobby just for wz.
I've chosen platform independent Java, so in my dreams it should work everywhere xD.
client-server external app. that run main warzone2100 executable with certain parameters
So there would be:
High priority
- Main Lobby chat
- List of games (I called them Rooms like in gamespy)
- Rank System
- Options (game options, lobby settings )
Low priority
- auto-updater (but Zarel insured me that its very hard to do, so it wont be with a high probability)
- Downloads/Uploads (maps, mods. etc)
- Tournament Support or Events Manager (easier way to make a games grid and set players in there )
- Clans system (ability to create clans, make clan wars and etc stuff)
- Internal MODs manager (may be, there are few already so I don't know about this)
Its just in design stage

It's not that hard on Windows/Mac. It's only hard on Linux.Terminator wrote:- auto-updater (but Zarel insured me that its very hard to do, so it wont be with a high probability)
Re: Warzone Online
You know that .sh compile file to download trunk could you use something like that to automate linux
Because the repository in ubuntu for example always seems to be a version late.
Also they may not want to have the beta in repository till they are actual releases.
This lobby program you have would it sit on top of warzone because in ubuntu the way it is now you cant minimise warzone so having that running would be a waste because you won't be able to use it and play.
PS. Could you make a debian package?
another PS. Would it be possible to add warzone repository to Ubuntu updater .Example the software that is installed using ubuntu repositories is checked by the update manager and auto updated regularly.
I you could add warzone repository to that would it keep it to the latest version?

Re: Warzone Online
Well anyway its the hardest part. It will be in the last stand.Zarel wrote:It's not that hard on Windows/Mac. It's only hard on Linux.
Well I think I will not depend of anything. You creates room > wait for players > push Start Button > wz)online minimazed > launching Warzone and you are in hosted MP room in warzone with all players that were with you in wzonline. As I said it similar to gamespy and the way its works. There shouldn't be problems, may be jsut you would need somekind of administrator right or something.Berg wrote: This lobby program you have would it sit on top of warzone because in ubuntu the way it is now you cant minimise warzone so having that running would be a waste because you won't be able to use it and play.

Debian package - no, I'm no much familiar with Linuxs so I dont know.....mmm...btw package of what ? My wzonline ? If yes so its Java - you just need run *.jar file.....I hope so. (JVM should be installed)

Warzone on my ubuntu system has always been frustrating..it runs realy well if i just play the game but if i wanted to change desktops or minimise it either crashes or refuses to let me.
Note im new to ubuntu and I like it just i dont know how to change much.

Basically, the repository is not allowed to be updated after that version of Ubuntu is released, except for security fixes.
Re: Warzone Online
Its true I dont understand repositories.
I do know that when I add new software to my system it gets updated on occasions.
That maybe only Ubuntu systems updates.
This topic is about the Java programs sorry if i divereted it some.

Re: Warzone Online
Main lobby chat is what we need. You can never tell how many players are online, and few people host games (well, you got to be patient ) Also it would be easier to agree on some map etc. Probably nobody really uses the IRC channel (?)

Re: Warzone Online
Its sad but It true, usually noobies don't know how to do that or ...who knows what else.Michal wrote:Probably nobody really uses the IRC channel (?)
Its more easier if with the game link in download section, would be a link for Warzone Online, and ad a comment "THIs is for Online Gaming" - than may br someone would be there after a while.

Re: Warzone Online
Does warzone run inside this program...so you see a tab top to flip from game to chat?
Im a bit confused as to where this program is when game is running.
It looks feature packed..very nice
