thanks a lot :)
I'm currently listening through the original Warzone 2100 retail soundtrack for some inspiration.
I think I will try to replace some of the drum sounds with more fitting ones, though it is pretty hard with the limited hardware I've got.
About the 'static', part of it I'm sure is because of the extreme mp3 compression I've applied to make the file fit in the small space allowed for uploaded files here, but yes, there are also 2 synthesizers with white noise sounds through various filters and modulators in the background.

Update: music - untitled/work in progress

Post by fisk0 »

oops, it's almost been a year since my last update on this.
I'm rather slow with these things, and having lots of other stuff to do does not help.

well, I picked it up again some time ago, and here's the latest version.
I've redone the drums, hopefully for the better, and it's an MP3 v0 vbr, length about 4:30 and about 8MB, divided into 3 rar files due to the 3MB per file limit on the forum.
I tried to make it an ogg, but my oggenc2 does not seem to work.
and, sorry, I haven't managed to come up with any fancy variations yet, so it's still rather non-eventful as a song, hopefully I'll get some ideas later.
edit: and, sorry, no title yet either.

Love it. Can you put or send me a flac compressed version somehow? Then I can turn it into an ogg format file that people can use in Warzone.

I did not see anything about a license that allows us to distribute it. If in doubt, I recommend giving a permission to distribute it under "CC-BY-SA 3.0" (see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/us/).

I'm not sure if I have any flac export capable software installed on the computer, but I do have the uncompressed 16 bit 44khz wav file which I could probably rar/zip up and send.
About licensing, I'm leaning towards one of the least restrictive creative commons ones, though I couldn't find my way through the creative commons licencing info page to get a good description on what all the different CC licenses mean.

I'm also not quite sure on how 'finished' this song is yet.

The less restrictive license is this: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/us/

Rar compressed wav will do as well. Let me know when you think it is ready/done.

what does the porting of the licence to other nationalities mean? I see there is a swedish 'port' of CC licenses, http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/se/deed.en, adapted to swedish authorship/copyright laws, but should I use the licence of my (the author's) country, or the country of the project (which is that?)?

I have no clue -yet- about the CC licenses. But there is also an unported one: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Thanks a lot, guys :)

Personally I don't think the song compares to the original music, and I began making this track before the original soundtrack was liberated, so I guess the need for it isn't that big anymore - but of course, some mod or something might want to use it, so I'll definitely try to complete the song, and possibly more in the same style (if I get the inspiration and if my computer want to cooperate a bit longer). I'm still thinking of stuff to add or change before I'll "release" it, but thank you all for your kind words. :)
