Beautiful! Does it come with 5 year warranty?

I would imagine a flap (can never remember the proper name for it) would be needed on the tail fin to turn the transport left and right without needing to do strange tilts and differential fan speeds?

For the flaps on the wings (ailerons?) would they be used more for wind breaks when coming to a halt, basically to increase the rate at which forward motion is reduced?

It would be so awesome if the flaps could be animated when the transport is turning or stopping.

Making animations would be simply a matter of someone making a decent animation system...
Right now, the flaps are of course only a texture, but that wouldn't be too hard to change ;)

Thanks guys, this beast is really much more time consuming to make than I first anticipated.
@aubergine: thanks for the image, although I think it already appeared somewhere in this thread :)

.

Been vocal on more than one occassion bout how I didn't care much for the original super transport. This reboot has turned me around 180 degrees and made me a believer. :3

Further progress. Basic tcmask laid down, did a profile view so that you can see where this is going :)

I have officially creamed my pants.

EDIT: It's a shame that the object's internal ID (number used to identify every object on the map in C++ code) can't be displayed on units, as that would allow custom numbering on the tail fin for example.

I'm afraid that would still require several programming steps, like making an image editing module that overlays text on certain pre-defined positions before exporting the texture to the gpu.

I noticed on the original design for this unit that there were four cut-away black sections on the front:

This seems to be a homage to the Eagle Transporter ships in Space 1999:

The remake, Space 2099 (1 year before the Collapse heh!) features the Kestrel transporter with similar black sections on the front.

In WZ tradition of taking ideas from other movies, etc., would it be worth retaining the four black sections on the front of the new transport?

Good find :)
I was wondering for a long time on what they could possibly have intended with those black areas. After a while I decided to simply cover it with metal :p

Too far into the modeling to change that though. Also, that kind of design is pretty far from structurally sound :P

The cut-away sections on the nose of the Eagle and Kestrel transports, it seems to me, are in themselves tributes to the windows of the Gemini spacecraft from the NASA program of the same name. On those vehicles, windows for the pilots were located in similar, albeit much smaller, indentations.

A bit of "kitbashing" or whatever you like to call it, reusing old textures to produce new units.
Made this medium helicopter propulsion for Tenoh.
Currently not animated, I just replaced the vtol model to show it ingame.
