[Cam 0] 'Scavenger Wars' Ideas Thread

Post by Goth Zagog-Thou »

So it's been decided (more or less) that Campaign 5 will involve the various Scavenger Factions, and use the Ultimate Scavenger Mod as a base, with NTW serving up additional content. Obviously this will be for 3.1+ versions of Warzone.

The guidelines for this idea thread:

- Create your own Scavenger Faction using a unique player number (4~10). I'd like to reserve player slots 0-3 for what has already been established in case those are needed in the Campaign.

- These Scavenger Factions are inter-related somehow. They all have dealings with one another (whether good or bad). The end goal is that some are allied while some are at war with each other. Some could even be riding the fence. Who knows?

- We need stories too. Fan fiction is the best way to make something 'Canon' that originally wasn't.

Have at it! :)

[EDIT] Changed thread title to Cam 0, as it should be. :)

Might sound like a campaign 0 instead. A story of how several scavenger factions were united to form the Project could be cool!

+1 for Cam 0 idea. It's time we had a prequel! :)

The cam would start in the nuclear winter just after the collapse, and initially be based in Seattle. Initial goals would be to deal with disease and famine. There would be wars over cans of dog food - a primary objective would be to secure a dog food warehouse that several factions are trying to control.

After getting control over the dog food warehouse, and some medical facilities, several scav factions join forces to form "The Project" they head to the Rocky Mountains which they've heard are relatively rad free, fighting off bands of marauders on the way.

Eventually the find a military base. After getting the doors open and clearing out the bodies, and determined to build a new world out of the ruins, they rebuild the landing pads and bring some of the old systems back online.

They embark on a mission to gather artefacts from before the collapse, and having decided what artefacts to look for they determine the most likely locations where they can be found. They decide to create three groups (alpha, beta, gamma) that will go searching for artefacts, but first need to get a HQ, transports and more advanced construction trucks.

The campaign ends with Team Alpha's transport heading towards the western zone in search of advanced neural synapse technology in a pre-collapse cyborg production facility.

Also, would it be worth starting with some new type of resource: food and medical supplies?

So instead of derricks and power gens, initially scavs would need things like food and medical supplies to gain power and thus encourage other factions to join them. There's no point having oil if you're starving and dying.

Once they get to the base in the rockies, oil would start to become more important so they'd have to research things like oil derrick and scav power gen.

Also, what is NTW? (nexus total war? if so what does that actually mean?)

I thought it was 'New Team Warfare'. /shrug

I like the idea of doing a Prequel -- *how* The Project got started. A loose conglomeration of civilians, ex-military, and otherwise like-minded individuals organized to pick up the pieces of a destroyed world. We never really get a definition of who, why, or how The Project gets started, so I think we have some latitude here.

So for a preliminary sense of the story, we begin the Campaign with several warring groups of Survivors. Over the course of the Campaign we discover that only by working together can humanity survive. The road is a rocky one, however -- old prejudices are often difficult to let go of; and some even BLAME the military for the catastrophe and have banded together for revenge. Others simply want to clean up the mess and move forward.

Lots of possibilities to tell a story here. :)

[EDIT} Plus, a Campaign like this will give everyone else time to finish up the new models and stuff for 3.1+ -- and give Campaign 4 more time to get totally fleshed out.

Delphinio's mod has a lot of Scav assets that can be combined with USAI mod.

Sounds cool. Maybe in the beginning, the "artifacts" are not research items as much as they are a means of survival?

To make things more interesting, what about letting the player make moral choices allowing the player to form one of the three major factions (nexus not counted)

That's along the lines of what I was thinking as well. Artifacts being a means to survive. And the moral choices during the campaign would likewise make for very good and interesting gameplay.

We likes it, precious! :lol2:

The initial warring of the factions would likely be purely about survival rather than any grander scheme, then as they overcome food and disease issues they start to think about the bigger picture and factions merge to create stronger groups with clearer objectives.

I certainly like the idea of finding stuff to basically survive in the early stages of cam0. If nothing else it gives a unique opportunity to make dog food a significant component within an RTS warfare game!

Is there perhaps a story line that would take the scavs out of survivor mode, in to a basic form of society that has farms and medical supplies, and then becoming more militarised to fend of threats from increasingly strong enemies, with the eventually making the move to military bases and proper warfare?

It would link up with what's written in the official guide:
The Collapse came fast and hard. Following a technical error in the satellite
defense system, nuclear warheads were fired at Washington, Beijing and Moscow.
Minutes later, ground based sites fired in response to the launch. Millions died
as nuclear firestorms wiped out the world’s cities. Billions more died as plagues
and epidemics swept away what remained of civilization. Less than a million
people survived the Collapse. Earth broke into hundreds of small scavenger
bands battling each other for the remnants of the former civilization. Only a few
had the vision to attempt to rebuild a new world from the ashes.

The player (referred to as ”the Commander”) is part of a group of survivors that seeks
shelter in a military base in the Rocky Mountains. They emerge from the base with the goal
of rebuilding the world, adopting the name ”The Pro ject”.
I feel that cam0 needs to explain why alpha team has gone looking for military artefacts in cam1, and perhaps give some indication as to what beta and gamma teams were sent off to do - I'm not aware of anything that explains what their missions were supposed to be. Beta didn't expand much - maybe their mission was to focus on civilian stuff, eg. building of a new city (hence them setting up near a ruined city) but then they were ambushed by the enemy (something they were not fully prepared for)? As for Gamma, I have no idea what their mission would have been or what they've been doing since setting off to their initial base?

These questions and more could be answered by cam0.

I love it. Aubergine, if you like, feel free (when you find the time) to write up mission overviews. :D I'll gladly take passenger seat on this one, and stick to scripting it up using WZScript (and we can move to .js afterwards) and some mapping.

@Goth: Have you already tagged both of Macuser's tunes for CAM 4 (BG & plains)...? I'm hearing "BG" in Scavenger Wars somewhere. Just wondering. :3

For those who have not heard:

~ BG: http://artrev2100.sourceforge.net/BG2.mp3

~ Plains: download/file.php?id=9429
