pre-releases?

Post by zany »

I was thinking wouldn't it be possible to make a pre-release available to everyone before the actual release so at least some people can test it before it is announced?

Uhm, doesn't buildbot do that already - there are nightly releases that people can check IIRC (can't remember where though).

no, just release beta 5 to a group of people and they can test and report back if any game breaking things are in it

Having done some digging in to the version history of WZ recently, it's quite rare that you get two betas released within a day of each other. So I think we just chalk 3.1 beta 5 up to experience and ignore this little blip on the radar.

BTW, is it me or is interest and participation in WZ really hotting up recently?

zany, I know what you mean, but personally I think that simply releasing more often is better.
Just people should know that this beta stuff, we must kill 2.3.x ASAP too...

That's exactly what happened - Beta 5 was released, a bunch of people downloaded it, found and reported problems, the devs fixed the problems and released beta 6 :)

The best solution would to but warning: "this is beta stuff, it can eat your cat, but we would appreciate feedback anyway". ;-)
