i was suggesting hashes for the exact reason that it's more unique than a filename -- if we use a program to handle the hash/preload database and present it in a clean way to the modder, it doesn't matter if it's modder-friendly (it could be stored in binary, even), but hashes relieve the modder from having to worry about filename collisions.
i forgot where i was going with this, though.

not only that but the dev's just got rid of the damn hash crap. not sure who all was involved but ... to go back... personally - i would rather learn from something in human readable form. possibly have some gui to convert to bin later??? dunno.
