Pixel artists are needed once again!

Post by vexed »

On the HOST lobby screen, we will have a series of new buttons where the game name was.
These new buttons should be the typical WZ size for buttons.
The other buttons are located here: https://github.com/Warzone2100/warzone2 ... s/frontend so try to stick to the same size, or else, they won't fit!

What we need is something that symbolizes these things:
PRO / Non-Pro (ie, Pro game or not)
Noob friendly (won't kick noobs)
Kick on ping being too high (something like under 200 ping is fine (green?) 201-400 is at the edge, and above 401 = kick)
and I bet I am forgetting some stuff...so, feel free to request something that I have missed, which will be useful.

These will also be shown in the client lobby screen, with descriptions (tooltips) so people can know what they are.

Have at it!

Greetings,

I've created multiple iterations of each for use as static-images, buttons, or both, as well as multiple alternatives for each. Feel free to use as you see fit, question, or comment.
Note: All currently presented as 37px(w) by 24px(h)

Nice job!
I still have reservations about ping limits and how they should be defined.

Yeah, nice work xShadow421x :3

I was thinking of a toggle button, where one state would be for Pro games, and another for non-Pro games, so it switches when you click on it.

Anyone got any ideas for an icon that says "noob friendly"? (ie, won't kick them just because they aren't that good at the game yet.) :lecture: <-- like that one perhaps?

Hmm, yeah I wasn't entirely sure how to represent those as icons vs literal-words myself, which lead to what I came up with at the time. Creating anything completely new will be a challenge given the exceptionally limited dimensions, but that's what I'm here for. I'll see what I can come up with. Much respect to whoever made the originals back then.

So, for a "Noobs allowed" button based on your suggestion, I've come up with this so far:

As for a "pros only", I went for a suit & tie sort of look. At least as far as the pixels would allow anyway while trying to stay with Warzone's UI scheme:

Here they are in their OFF, ON, and Selected states based on other menu buttons:

Note: I've made these as 35 x 24 this time to coincide with what you'd find in the pre-game/joined/hosting lobby setup menu.

Sure is hard coming up with the right look for these things...
Perhaps we should stick with chevrons & medals, those are kinda universal for their meaning...
WZ does have a pacifier icon, which I suppose could stand for "noob", then we can have a strikeout circle for no noobs?

Anyone else got any brainstorms?

"Rome wasnt built in a day" - it just looks like it was lol.

http://bbsimg.ngfiles.com/1/25069000/ng ... f6ba32.jpg this as noob logo would be good... but seriously the first one Berg did isn't clear, I think easiest way is to match the rank as the "pacifier icon" which is clear and a simple strike-through for disallowed. or you could have the little man with the "pacifier icon" beside it.

For pro you want some form of medals like in military, not making people look like teachers/professors. The man with a simple medal beside him will work like already done above. This keeps these two about people and simple

any integration with work within viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12124 ?
