Warzone 2100 Menu Items - Part 1

Hi, I made new pictures of menu items for Warzone 2100 (http://betaguide.wz2100.net/).

Present ones found on the wiki are outdated and must be replaced.

I am going to post first part now. There is 438 so far completed and rest of them (turrets and buildings) I will post later after completion.

Feel free to check content for possible mistakes that may exist.
Also, It would be nice if someone would post in this topic what is missing.

Inside archive there are cropped screenshots so you can use modified bash scripts (included) to make these pictures in different way than me (by scaling or applying some sort of filter).

But these are bash scripts and it's recommended to use any Linux distribution plus you need program called ImageMagick.

I hope these files will be useful in any way.

I was doing Research Tree for Warzone 2100 (still working on it) using pictures I made when I noticed that one thing I skipped. It was image of Avenger SAM.

I am putting it here right away.
If anything else is missing then I shall post in this topic as soon as I can.

By the way, why there is no one interested in checking that stuff?
I know there wasn't much written by me in the last post and I didn't make good impression.
Let me give you then more details about my work.

These menu items for the use in this site - http://betaguide.wz2100.net/ were captured with high graphic settings (2048 texture size, 8x FSAA, Shaders). After capturing every single tab of menu (F10), I started cropping newly created screenshots using gimp plugin - David's batch processor.

Next I started extracting every single item using ImageMagic. For that purpose I had to write simple bash scripts for another batch process. Then I converted these files as indexed images (255 colours + transparent background near rounded top edges) and saved them in GIF format.

Finally the last thing to do was to checking everything (took some time).
Well, that's all I can say about it. There is no need explaining any further I think. I just want to draw your attention.

First, i have to explain current state on Wz Guide.
(sorry for bad english)

1) Wz Guide lives in github here - https://github.com/crab312/warzone2100-database
Currenly i do not have any contributors. You can make pull requests via GitHub if you want to change something in Wz Guide.
2) I have my personal website there i place lately updated versions of my Wz Guide

Version http://betaguide.wz2100.net/ is updated more rare because it requires approvement from WZ Project Staff.
So if I use icons made by you, then i will upload it at http://en.wzone2100.ru/

I agree - Current Icon Set of Wz Guide is not complete and some icons not look good. So I can take your icons and commit it in Wz Guide.

Seems i have to change something in Wz Guide sourcecode, becauce currently i using following form of filenames of icons: "R-Cyborg-Armor-Heat04.gif". See here: https://github.com/crab312/warzone2100- ... s/Research

Most of research icons are not present in Wz Guide. So it is very good to have full set of these icons.

Btw, happy to see anyone who mentions my Wz Guide :wink:

You don't have to apologise for your English, mine isn't the best either.

First of all I am convincing you to check what I have already done.
We have to make sure everything is in order.
The content of the archive I've sent is organized.
You shouldn't have any problems with browsing images.

As for me It's a sign that I have to begin creation of the last part.
I was busy making Research Tree for this game and I've stopped making of what I left. Sorry about that.
I thought this post will be ignored. Anyway, I will post results of my work here and at your Github's page.

The thing that bothers me is that the guide for this game is splitting in two directions and I personally don't like this approach. It would be better to have everything updated on one website. I think everyone would consider this as a move in right direction.

But for now, It would be nice to see some changes for your guide at:
http://en.wzone2100.ru/

As for file names, I can easily rename anything I've done just give me some suggestions or maybe it should stay as it is.

I finally did the second part and I decided to merge both packages into one because I had to do some changes regarding first part.

Sorry about delay, but I was too lazy.

In this final release there is 715 files. All of them are saved as GIF and have indexed colour palette.

You can find them in the directories containing word “OK” and “missing”.

The following folders contains what should be uploaded to Warzone's guide :
- missing buildings
- missing research
- wz2100 Buildings OK
- wz2100 CAMPAIGN Researches OK
- wz2100 CYBORG Hardware OK
- wz2100 Cyborgs OK
- wz2100 Researches OK
- wz2100 SCAVENGER Arsenal OK
- wz2100 SCAVENGER Units OK
- wz2100 Transporters OK
- wz2100 TURRET Systems OK
- wz2100 TURRET Weapons OK
- wz2100 VEHICLE Bodies OK
- wz2100 VEHICLE Propulsions OK
- wz2100 VTOL Equipments OK

In “wz2100 Researches OK 2” you can find smaller in size icons for Researches to be used in Research Tree by me.

Other directories contain cropped screenshots to compare with the completed icons.

I didn't put in separated folders things like skirmish/multiplayer structures, Nexus defending buildings, constructions of Scavengers etc.

It would take more efforts, to make it better organized.

Files are named according to what tooltips shows but I can rename them for a good reason.

Some files include single capital letter in the beginning to prevent creating files containing identical name, even if they are in different location.

I think all of the items are in this archive. If there is something wrong or missing, tell me what it is.

On top of that I've managed to capture units like Jeep or School Bus (check folder “wz2100 SCAVENGER Units OK”) using program “wmit”.

I have to thank berg and others for this useful application.

Things that don't have icon for them can use image called “Question Mark.gif”.

At the time of doing this stuff, I have found that few tooltips in game must be fixed
(see “wz2100 Menu Items.odt” or “wz2100 Menu Items.pdf” for more information).

Hello.

I see you did what i suggested to do - you renamed files of icons.
Great work!

I will try to include it and see what happen :)
I will say if I find problems. Please wait 1-2 days and I will say what results.

So, I think my part is done here.
If you like the names of files then it's good to hear it.
Please note that there are some new icons and probably you need to add some code.
Also, carefully check all the files.
Meanwhile, I will wait for your response.

You know some of Project devs have planned to remove IDs of components and use only names.
So your version with icons named by using actual component name can be useful in future, but not sure :)

I've been following this topic with interest. :)

This is another important thing to have work done for Warzone moving forward, and I appreciate it.

I'll take a deeper look at it later on when I have more time. Today is busy for me.

Oops, It looks like there is another flaw in my work.
Two images are missing (Bodies of Cyborg Transport and Super Transport) plus I had to fix 2 lines in script.
These two files had to be in "wz2100 VEHICLE Bodies OK" and fixed script in ""wz2100 VEHICLE Bodies"
I am sending these files now...

Hello.
I'm reporting. I updated components images (icons) in Wz Guide.
I had to rewrite js code for showing icons, sorry for delay.

Also I found few 'bugs' in icons archive. Some research icons were named incorrectly. I had to rename some icons to make it matching to names of research (%Armour -> Armor, %Vapour -> Vapor).
Now Wz Guide uses both new and old icons. First it searches icons by name (new icons archive) and if fails it searches icons by id of component (my old icons).
Actually I don't know what version of icon is used, so feel free to check it :)

Only one issue i did not solved - images of cyborgs weapons. I'll fix it later. Plus some scavs weapons...
Seems I have to rename some images to make them matching to original names of components.

Latest version also placed at Github https://github.com/crab312/warzone2100-database

Note: I updated Guide at my own site because I support multilingual Wz Guide (en/ru). I have two sites which occupy double space for all content. I know there was problems with free space at official wz2100.net.

I did not do much testing of new version, but all look ok.
Note: sometimes it is hard to force internet browser to update cached content like images and scripts. Press Crlf+F5 to do forced page reload.

I had to take a quick glance at this guide and I am glad to see new changes.
Most of the new icons seems to be in use now but there are few exceptions.
In the next post I am going to write more details about that.

As for fixing spelling, please check explanation in
“wz2100 Menu Items.odt” or “wz2100 Menu Items.pdf” (these are same documents).
This game originally was developed by British company, Pumpkin Studios (as you know) and
I decided to use only the British spelling.
I think it's not right to mix two different spelling types.

Some notes about your suggestions on spelling.
Let me clarify situation. Wz guide uses data from official Wz repo. E.g. titles of research was taken from there : https://github.com/Warzone2100/warzone2 ... earch.json
(actually i use previous version of stats)
As you can see, for example, "Vapor Turbine Generator" is name of research in original stats. I cant change this.

So I cant fix "Vapor" and "Amor". Not sure, but this form may be already used in translations (dunno how it works).
