New font
New font
We now use true type for font rendering in Warzone, which means we can more easily change the font, support more font attributes, and support extended character sets. However, the new default font does not look very appropriate for a game, so I have been looking for a new font. I found one on Open Font Library which I think can work, and the screenshots linked below will show you how it looks.

Here is another font, called Epyval:

It is distributed under a non-commercial type license, so we would have to try to convince its makers to let us use it under the GPL first.

Re: New font
I don't really like the first one - the tops of s and e look squeezed, and a, d and p are too wide. And it seems to be lower case only.
The second looks OK, except for the too large space between T and u.
But another question: Do those fonts contain all characters the translations that currently exist need?

We want information... information... information.

I did not check very closely, but after a quick glance, I think so.cybersphinx wrote: But another question: Do those fonts contain all characters the translations that currently exist need?

Re: New font
i think the second one looks slightly better for warzone. and certainly, if we could allow user overrides via the user config file, it would be much better, imo

Yes, it would be a nice touch.kage wrote: i think the second one looks slightly better for warzone. and certainly, if we could allow user overrides via the user config file, it would be much better, imo
We do got some issues with going from a fixed sized font to a possible variable sized one. Mainly with all the bitmaps that were made for a specific font, and if we use something else, they must be modified.
And modifying that stuff isn't exactly easy. Right now it requires a hex editor, and then playing around with the image files.
The GUI might also have issues with some fonts, and how it converts things in editboxes.
and it ends here.
