I know that NEWST terset is coming.. will it solve this problem ?
* Well... though we have NEWST founders & alumnis on our team we call ourselves simply "WZ 2200"...

* The short answer to your question is "YES".... in spades...works of art that'll bring tears to your eyes their so beautiful.

* Their are 3 reasons we are holding off our first release and one of them is the completion of a brand new and awesome "Map Editor"... :) We want to release simultaneously so all you artist-map makers can jump right-in and start creating for yourselves... :)

* Indeed, they are stunning. :)

* Member HB (their creator) was a Master Mapmaker out of the original "TA" community.

* While I never out & out asked HB or Pumpkin.... the evidence leads me to believe that Pumpkin recruited HB from "TA" to make the very first fan maps with WZ2100.

* My evidence is that HB released "Ariza" map, tertiles AND "T-M Linker" (the proggy he coded so we could use custom tertiles in our maps) within DAYS of "EWs" official release while the rest of us (hundreds) were still trying to figure-out just HOW the map editor worked !!!!!!

* Now while Member HB was increadibly talented, smart & proficient (professional network coder) there is no way humanly possible he coulda did what he did in the time-frame unless Pumpkin had given him access to "EW" MONTHS before its official unsupported release.

* Member HB was also a true gentleman & pleasure to deal with (not a common occurence on the Net or RL... seems a dieing breed.)

* ALSO: Member HB taught us the fun technique of creating Structures outta tertiles - sweet.

I also just found http://wiki.wz2100.net/Converting_Old_Maps
Don't know if that helps, though (didn't test it)...

TA > you mean TA springs or very old 2D TA ? But I wona to see this maps in wz as soon as possible.

about maps theme: need to creat something new for map filtering in game. Current sorting is too heavy as for me & also this map_pack - there is only few playable maps other (80%) just copies or gliched or flate serface  & tones of oil < hate maps like that < no tactics, no stratey well you know what I mean.

.pcx files don't go anywhere, they should be .png files now.

Maybe you can update the wiki?

As for where, basically, they go is the same directory structure as the ones you see now.  You just recreate those, and pop in the .png or .ogg or whatever you want to change into the .wz and that should be it.  Then run your mod.
and it ends here.

I would have to see which map file it is.

The issue here is that when the stuff was stored in the wdg, it used a hash.  That is why the (most likely) texture filename looks like $293812 or whatever.

Map textures pretty much all used the same names, since that is how they did 'overrides' from the default one.
and it ends here.

I don't know how much this will help everyone else since I am late to the party.
I'm sure that everyone has already converted a bulk of the old maps they own.
But here is a little batch file I created to do the grunt work.

Code: Select all

@echo off
path=d:\zip
set /p name=What is the map name?
cd map
ren *.gam %name%.gam
ren addon.lev %name%.addon.lev
ren Map1. %name%.
md multiplay
cd multiplay
md maps
cd ..
move %name%. multiplay\maps\
move %name%.gam multiplay\maps\
7za a -r %name%.zip *.*
ren %name%.zip %name%.wz
rd /s /q multiplay
@echo Map converted to new format.
@echo Copy the .Lev and .Wz file to your Warzone2100/Maps dir.
@pause
Download 7zip command line - 7za457.zip (link below)
Unzip 7Zip to a folder like c:\zip
Make new folder anywhere and place the Convert.bat file there.
Edit the 2nd line to reflect the name of the folder you put 7Zip Path=c:\zip
Make new folder and name it Map it should be in the same folder as the batch file.
Using WDG Explorer extract all the files into the Map folder you just made.
Run the Convert.bat file.
When you enter the map name in at the prompt make sure to do the full name 8c-Mine
Open the Map folder again.
Copy the .Lev and .Wz file into your Warzone 2100/Maps directory, create one if its missing.

**Note:
Might not work with all maps. Conversion based of instructions in this post.
If a map has custom Audio, Models or Textures this will NOT convert them, and the map will probably not work.
When choosing a folder to put 7zip into, make it a simple, short name with no spaces under the root folder.
Putting it in a folder that uses long names with spaces will be hard to edit to the Path line.
The folder that you place convert.bat and folder containing the map data can be anywhere.

7zip Command Line -> http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Batch file and help -> http://wz2100.servegame.com/convert.zip

Also when converting, *ALL* filenames *MUST* be lowercase.
All the paths to files *MUST* be unix style, and not windows.  (you can't have blah\blah\whatever.wrf it needs to be blah/blah/whatever.wrf)
There is also another wdg extractor utility that has been posted on the mailing list, that was used to make the original map pack.  You still need to fix what I mentioned though.
and it ends here.

Did you read what I wrote?
What is the problem exactly?
Post some error logs or something, since we have no idea what you did.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with sp1 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
3GB RAM
Nvidia 8500GT PCIe
400GB HD
I have version 2.0.10 in the default location it installs to.
I put the Beta version in its own folder called WZ Beta
I added a folder in both locations called maps.
2.0.10 shows and will play the map, the Beta shows the map but when I try to use it, the game crashes to desktop.
The msg I get after it crashes is "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I did read the directions more than once.
The map I converted does work with 2.0.10 so I am pretty sure I did it correctly.
I followed the directions at the beginning of this thread.

Looks like I need to make this stand out more, since people are NOT reading this.

And that is your mistake.
Not trying to be rude, but when I said did you read what *I* wrote, I meant it.  :)

2.0.x & 2.1.x are not quite the same, as I outlined above.

In your map that you uploaded, the paths are wrong, and the filename case is wrong as well.

See here: http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/warzone/tags ... 8c-clover/
That is how they *MUST* be named, not the way that you have them.

For the paths issue, see here : http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/warzone/tags ... iew=markup

You have:

Code: Select all

level	TheBigOne-T1
players	8
type	12
dataset	MULTI_CAM_2
game	"multiplay\maps\8c-TheBigOne.gam"
data	"wrf\multi\campaign.wrf"
data	"wrf\multi\fog2.wrf"
That is *windows* style, it must be *unix* style.
It should look something like:

Code: Select all

level Clover
players 8
type 12
dataset MULTI_CAM_1
game "multiplay/maps/8c-clover.gam"
data "wrf/multi/campaign.wrf"
data "wrf/multi/fog1.wrf"

Also, the *.addon.lev file is *only* supposed to be IN the .wz file.  Just have 1.  No need for it to be *outside* the .wz file also.

Hope that helps?
:)

If you still need help, let me know.  If you do fix your mistakes, then upload it so others can have a before & after.  ;D
and it ends here.
