If you have made a Map or a Mod or graphics, sound effects, music, or anything else that you made in the past, or are going to make one in the future, we need your permission to distribute your work.

If you would be so kind to list any map or mod that you have made in this thread, and specify which licensing agreements you are willing to put up with.

If you want inclusion with Warzone 2100, you have several options: GPL 2 is obviously favoured, since that is what Warzone 2100 is licensed under. An "or later" clause is prefered. CC0 is favored, since it's basically a public domain dedication, and allows us to use your work without worrying about copyright. CC licenses are favored over GPL since the GPL is designed to be a programming source code license, not a content license.

Just as with the CC, you can follow the link at the bottom of that page to read the full license.)

What we do not have any use for is NC (non-comercial) or ND (no-derivates) variants of the Creative Commons licenses. (We cannot accept them since they are incompatible with Free Software)
Non SA (share-alike) variants are not prefered. (Zarel: Why not? We're here to make a game, not promote copyleft license zealotry)

Another option is CC0, or giving it away into the Public Domain, in which case we will relicense it as "GPL 2 or later" for the use in Warzone 2100.

Both licenses allow distribution and modfication.

Basic rundown of the GPL 2:
  • You must hand out the "sourcecode" ("the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it") along with your work. For images this means it should be lossless (i.e. not jpeg), models and scripts are ok as is, etc
  • Every work which needs your work to be functional (i.e. a mod which uses your textures) needs to be licensed GPL 2 (or compatible). This ensures that people use Free stuff to produce Free stuff. (Free as in Freedom.)

In the 2.0.2.3 release that Qamly did, he had a readme file that said:
Special thanks to RBL-4NiK8r for these maps, he has given permission
to distribute with the game!
The maps are: 4c-borgwars1.wz, 4c-craterlake.wz, 4c-scav3.wz, 4c-theweb.wz,
4c-zmazetest.wz, 8c-iamrage.wz,8c-nightmaredone.wz, and 8c-teamwar2d.wz.
Just confirming what the readme file says, and if so, what license would you want your work to be covered under?

Lav_Coyote, on IRC it was mentioned you also have some maps (Mars?) that you have given.
Can you also clarify which maps, and what license you wish?

you are allowed to use the mods and skin for your resurrection project only.
that means you can put them in your installer. i would put them under GPL license but its not all my stuff.
i do a update if they dont work with 2.1 anymore. and you can put them in, with 2.1.1 : ).

Well I cant really recall who or if I gave my maps to anyone for release, but I think lavcoyote25 asked me about that ages ago, and I have no problem with them being put into the game, I want to go thru them and see what all you have, and see what I still have around thats not in the list, I will try and get back to that after work today or this weekend, and as for the legal stuff I guess we will go with this CC BY-SA 3.0, but I would like to know if any changes are being made before a release if that can be done, or if you need something changed let me know.

Cool, the more maps we have, the better!  :)

As for modifications, they are 'as is'.
The ones that I am looking at now that work 'as is': 4c-borgwars1.wz, 4c-craterlake.wz, 4c-scav3.wz, 8c-teamwar2d.wz.

These are the ones that have errors in them:  4c-theweb.wz, 4c-zmazetest.wz, 8c-iamrage.wz,8c-nightmaredone.wz, and 8c-teamwar2d.wz.

We don't have the original .lnd files to fix those 'correctly'.  I can hack it to make it work though, via a kludge of loading up .gam files.

I have attached the files that talk about what errors there are in the maps.  For most of them, for some reason, there are multiple oil/tree features that occupy the same tile.

There are 3 map that have gateway errors, two of those (iamrage & teamwar2d)  both have lots of gateway errors, and the other one (nightmaredone) has gateway & feature errors.

I give the coordinates of the location in the text file, so you can find the issue that way, or I can fix them via the hack, or if you still have the .lnd files, then I can produce new versions of the maps.

Your choice. :)

Well I have to see what lnd's I still have, its been awhile, as for the maps I think some of these were old copys.

4c-borgwars1.wz- this was finished

4c-craterlake.wz- this was one of my first maps that a lot of GER loved to play back in the early days of WZ, but I made an 8 player one that was called BigCraterLake or something like that, and it was a lot more detailed.

4c-scav3.wz- this was an early copy of borgwars back when I was trying to add Scavs to the map.

8c-teamwar2d.wz- Not sure here, dose this have a snow back ground for the most part, dont recall the 2d part, see I made a copy of Teamwars with a few twists to it on the Mountain tile set, with lots of snow mixed in the land scape.

4c-theweb.wz- This should have a MOD file added to it that gave some of the Scav units at start up, Maynard add some of the things to this, but thats been ages ago since I looked at it, I knew of a few issues back then tho.

4c-zmazetest.wz- as stated in the name this was only a test map, the final map was an 8 player map.

8c-iamrage.wz- I dont even recall this one, not even sure if this is one of my maps.

8c-nightmaredone.wz- well as it says in the name this was the final, I did that a lot so I knew what lnd's I finished.

I notice you dont have any of my Arttic map listed, I think they had some of my best work, and your missing a few others. I will try to get a list of most of my better maps and see what you have.

Ok, once you have the lnds ready, or just how you want to do this, let me know via this thread, or PM, and we can get together, and make this happen.

Removing the newlines just means he got rid of some extra whitespace (returns (/n))

RBL-4NiK8r, they are nearing the next beta for Warzone 2.1, can we include the above mentioned maps, or should we hold off, until you can find other ones?

I have managed to adapt a map of mine to run on v2 beta 1 and would like to make it available to others. Is there a page or site yet to allow me to do this? I'm easy about making it freely available. There is no source code, as I understand it, but if I'm mistaken here, perhaps someone can set me right.

btw, the beta version runs pretty smoothly on my rig. I don't know about the rebalancing, though. The Lancer bunker was good in holding off the rushes you get with Aivolution, esp once the AI gets the heavy cannon.

Usually, if you have something you want to share with the community, the only option right now is to post a message in the 'showcase' section, and upload the .wz file there.

I am not sure of the size restriction, but most .wz files aren't that big.

For maps, your right, there isn't source per se, just the .lnd file. You don't have to include that if you don't want. Also note, that you *must* use the correct version of EW when you compile the maps, since things changed, and only the latest revision of EW (located in the sticky) will work with the newest versions of this game ( 2.1 beta 2/3...)

thanks for the quick response.

sorry to hear that the EW32 must be used from here on. Never managed to get the bloody thing to work. Had a conversation with Kim Metcalfe a year or two ago about it. Nothing has been done since. I suspect there is a problem loading Tile Sets. Tried with the "map10a" you recommend elsewhere, but I got the usual "error reading IMD" and then "error processing DataSet". (Using the updated exe available elsewhere here.)

I'm dloading beta3 at the moment. If I cannot load custom maps to it, then it looks like I will be left behind. Part of the joy with WZ is creating (or adapting) maps and working through all the possibilities.
