Shipyard (factory)

Post by Mysteryem »

From Alpha 93's sketch in viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2564 I've made a (floating) shipyard sort of factory, however, there are a few problems with it at the moment:
  1. 1 It's facing backwards, oops :gonk:
2 Currently, It doesn't look like it would ever float
3 I've only made the factory with two modules so far
Other than that I think it's looking pretty good :)
What are your thoughts?

What do you mean, 'wait for elio's ones' ? Maybe a better choice of words is in good order.

This one looks great, keep up the good work. I like how it keeps in tune with the style of the old graphics, which is a triumph in-and-of-itself.

lol, we're not working against each other..

let me say, this version will fit perfectly and fine in the current warzone style
but doesn't fit in NewBaseStructures which will replace the original one's in perhaps version 2.3 (we intend to provide the old structures for lower-end hardware and so there is need for a shipyard which fits original style)

edit: why did you seperate the modules? i always thought more modules = more space for constructing bigger tanks / ships xD

I've always thought of it as the first module builds light parts, the second module builds medium parts and the final module builds heavy parts.

I suppose that I just like making things such as 3d models. :|

Looks good and has a shipyard feel to it, though I personally would probably have envisioned it differently. I suppose it will be constructed on water tiles (like in Red Alert, or perhaps in the way Age of Empires did it, where it could be partly build on land if at least one tile was in water), not on land. I think I would have gone more for an oil platform look, with it standing on massive pillars in the water, kind of like this: Image
Desktop: AMD Athlon X3 440 3.0ghz, 4GB RAM, Radeon HD4200, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Laptop: AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 2.1Ghz, 3GB RAM, Radeon HD3200, Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit & Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit

That could be a scavenger shipyard alright, a converted rig, but I think the shipyard should look like a modern shipyard in layout, with more 2100 era structures.

I will be taking into account your thoughts and I will be completely changing the layout of the shipyard.
This is what will be replacing the previous modules:
