I noticed that the game gets harder if you try to use VTOL (once it is available that is), basically it is set up to defend against air attacks and if you do try vtol it will just waste your resources. Basically spam ripple rockets with CB and sensors, mass rocket units (lancer/tank killer) even assault gun and you will own it. It is really dead easy, especially that you can have like a 100 units at a time nowadays - not sure why they increased this for campaign because it just makes it too easy...

I completely understand what you mean. When I started I struggled immensely. I watched some videos on YouTube and that helps a ton! Now Its really not hard whatsoever. I do think they should probable upgrade the tutorial but don't touch the campaign .

I think they already did... I seem to remember a 40 unit cap back in the day, now with 100 or whatever it is the game mechanic is totally ruined, there is no challenge whatsoever.

In ny video walkthrough i obey the cap more or less (i think i have 40 tanks at most, and a few trucks). When you play quickly, you just never have time to transport more than that to away missions.

Hello. I've already invested a few good hours into this game.

I suspect some more popular RTS titles are easier than Warzone 2100 and it causes casual gamers and unexpected shock when first trying to get into this game.

My first look at Warzone 2100, a year or so ago, was very negative; My second look got me hooked. I think the difficulty is right, and I'm looking forward to ending the campaign without cheating or reading walkthroughs spoilers (I shouldn't be reading this forum in the meanwhile because it's full of spoilers, but yeah...)

That's very interesting. That probably made unit veterancy much more important. I wonder how difficult would it be to recompile the cap back, I'd certainly try to play with it.

I think the 40 unit cap was for the playstation version only. The playstation version was different in a lot of ways, mostly small things like that, but also some large things like drive mode.
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

as a veteran warzone player i have to agree that for the most part the campaign is to easy, although there are a few missions that even with my experience still give me trouble every time i play them.

here is a little tip for you, for alpha campaign you only need 3 types of combat units all on half tracks don't even think about using tracks on alpha campaign there to slow, machine gun units, lancer units, and a squad of mortars, with 3 squads of 18 units each you'll decimate all so long as you use the units again there appropriate targets, you don't even need to use commanders although it is recommended and does make life a bit easier due to the bonuses that a commander imparts on assigned units

so that one squad of machine gunners, 1 squad of lancers, and 1 squad of mortars, and each squad should consist of 18 units, each squad should also be lead by a command unit to gain the exp bonuses

machine gun units for soft targets, lancer units for tougher targets like new paradigm tanks and mortars for removing troublesome enemy emplacements, however for most of alpha campaign your machine gun or lancer units should be able to deal with most enemy turrets its only really in the later stages when you come up again lancer/tank killer turrets that you will need to resort to using artillery or other means to remove turrets

just remember to research new tech and recycle and upgrade units as you go also make best use of allotted time to do research gain more experience for low level units and to gather resources using this strategy its almost impossible to loose unless you run out of time

you will also want to make good use of the retread at medium damage option and or mobile repair units to stop you loosing experienced units

once you get through alpha campaign that's where things get a bit more tricky because the collective units are a good deal better than yours to begin with so you will be wanting to create the heaviest and most durable units possible so that would be lancers on tracks with heavy body's, commanders on tracks with heavy body's heavy, and heavy machine guns on tracks with heavy body's

now you are probably wondering why i advocate the used of machine guns and the simple answer is that there just better than most other light weapon systems in the game

for ground units there are only really 3 combat turret types that are any good lancers/tank killers low rate of fire massive amounts of damage medium survivability if put on a heavy body and tracks good mobility even on tracks

machine guns low damage high volume of fire good for putting continual pressure on a target while missile units reload survivability wise it sits in between medium cannons and heavy cannons if put on a heavy body and tracks equal mobility to lancers when on tracks

artillery is where it gets a bit interesting for mobile units in alpha campaign you will have mortars and bombards you should start with mortars but only upgrade to bombards once you get heavy body's because they are to heavy for medium and light body's to carry making them excessively slow, once you have heavy body's bombards will have better mobility than tracked lancers and machine guns but only when put on half tracks if put on tracks there slower than both but since artillery shouldn't be taking incoming fire and since artillery has low survivability even with heavy body's and tracks this is a none issue

you could try mini rocket artillery but with less firepower and a range of only 7.5 meaning that they cant outrage enemy turrets which is what you would be using these to destroy and there abysmal accuracy they are imo a waste of time

once you get into beta and gammer campaigns you get better artillery my favorite has to be the pepper pot/hellstorm howitzer pepper pots are better than both mortars and bombards due to there high rate of fire they can lay down a lot more damage even though there individual shots might be weaker hellstorm howitzers are basically the same thing as pepper pots but a lot more powerful and long range

then you have ripple rockets that have massive range massive firepower but are really really slow to reload making hellstorm howitzers better for mobile units generally

I think that's a load of elitist crap. You're given 5 minutes to research the missile launch codes which requires 20 minutes of research time.

Have you ever actually used the MRA Turret? Those things hit their target at least 80% of the time, and one burst is enough to almost destroy a full hard point or tower, and it only takes a few to sink a bunker. 3 or 4 will level full factories to the ground, and usually only 5-6 at most can take out a paradigm medium body tank. EVEN IN BETA they're still awesome for base pushing, since most of your opposition in beta are cannon and lancer hardpoints/towers, which a team of 10 MRA's, 6-7 lancers for tanks, and a heavy sensor ALL on tracks can easily wipe out. Oh, also, MRA turrets are super effective against borgs (literally). I'd use mini rocket artillery over machine or assault guns any day, they simply do the same thing but they do it better.

I got Warzone shortly after release. Know the game for so long. But yes, Warzone becomes tricky very soon. I never got past the first, long two-hours-mission without cheating. "Incoming enemy transport..." again and again and again. I am totally srewed up every time again I reach that mission. :augh:

It's not -hard- it's just surprising. The campaign is horsetards easy before then, and then they added a LITTLE difficulty to spice things up a bit. It's a matter of preparation, and having your techs and defenses up to date before starting the mission. Though I guess that's what walkthroughs do >_<
