To me it's not even a problem; in the world StarCraft I and II, it was and is a common tactic ( See Gas Stealing) which essentially does what you're saying.. and as NoQ said; as long as it's worth the price!aubergine wrote:So the problem is back then, you can part build derricks to prevent other player from getting them = grim.

If you're reading this; you're awesome.
Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
Yeah, and the price is now roughly the same as in Starcraft

Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
I kind of liked it, but it's honestly not that big of a deal. It was more relevant when playing with AI imho.
Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
I prefer it. People cant just partially build them to make them useless for 5 minutes or so.

I feel it is worth the price, you deny the enemy resources and they are pretty much done.NoQ wrote:Sure, as long as it's worth The Price.

It's just a waste of time doing it if your opponent is a capable player, and doesn't necessarily mean they are 'done'.Rommel wrote:I feel it is worth the price, you deny the enemy resources and they are pretty much done.NoQ wrote:Sure, as long as it's worth The Price.
Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
Is it possible to disable this "feature", ie price for oil derricks? I ask this because it will have a huge effect on NTW style games, especially those starting with no base.

It is, though only through modding.

So I am right in saying that this "feature" has been added with no thought on how it will affect the gameplay for a substantial part of the community (ie those that enjoy NTW).Shadow Wolf TJC wrote:It is, though only through modding.
How much is each derrick?
$100 * 40 will be $4000 on a high oil map...
Surely a simple checkbox can be added in the setup screen, ie "Charge for Derricks"... best make it default "unchecked" as well because I believe you will find that most people will set it as such

Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
@Rommel: If it bugs you so much that the devs don't work to balance gameplay for experiences that are unsupported in the 1st place (including NTW-styled gameplay), then perhaps you should ask for someone to create a mod that would apply NTW-styled gameplay on ANY map, or learn to create said mod yourself. For example, you could mod the game so that it'll provide each player with free power every second (Contingency does this already, though not at levels sufficient for NTW-styled gameplay), or make everything cost no money to build, produce, or research.
Edit: I've quickly put together an infinite power mod. Hopefully, this would be enough to satisfy your NTW needs.

Contrary to what you think, NTW is not about infinite power.

Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
But anyway I get it, this is all about getting more people off NTW isn't it? Why else make this change? What because a handful of people complain about not being able to half build derricks to deny other players in low oil games (which is a stupid tactic anyway and quite dishonorable) ?
Or are there other reasons?
And no this new "feature" cannot be disabled with a mod, it needs to be a setting, because a mod requires all people to have it or it won't work in MP, and as we all know NTW is most popular game type on MP (which makes a small handful of people here absolutely seeth).
Is it so hard to make disabling the "feature" of paying for oil a setting... or does that ruin the agenda?

Re: A New Behavior of Building Oil Derricks
It is hard to make a setting for everything under the Sun, because we have limited space for settings, and each setting makes the UI more difficult to understand and use.
But, you can put the mod to change this behaviour into each NTW map, if you want. That way each player do not have to enable it. I think NTW is so different from normal Warzone that such modding of the rules should be expected and/or desired in any case.

Yes, as long as he recompiled the map(s) with a different name first. It may seem strange but not everyone wants to play unlimited power NTW.Per wrote:But, you can put the mod to change this behaviour into each NTW map, if you want.
