Remembering of Locations of Oil Resources
Re: Remembering of Locations of Oil Resources
I agree that a large part of Warzone 2100 is about research and technology but unless it is in the campaign "grabbing technology" is not part of the game. If you were talking about research though then it would be important but early in the game I would say managing to capture a large amount of oil derricks is more important.

If you use campaign as guide to "what defines warzone" is normal.Hesterax wrote:I agree that a large part of Warzone 2100 is about research and technology but unless it is in the campaign "grabbing technology" is not part of the game. But if you use history of MP games as definition of Warzone then you have to take into account games on NTW-style maps (oil at base). Rman said that NTW games have long history. Why not take them into account?
I can say Warzone MP balance was tuned for "low-oil" games with spreaded oil resources, like 1vs1 or 2vs2 or 1vs1vs1vs1.Rman Virgil wrote:Within maybe 3 weeks of release, the very first (N)TW style map was created and circulating like a brush fire in a drought parched woodland. The rest is Pandora Box history.
So it is true - managing to capture oil resources is part of game. Capture of oil resources does not mean searching for oil. It means fight for oil. For example when you send several groups of units in several directions to capture enemy oil resources.
Why not?NoQ wrote:No we don't.We want to make games harder for pro-players and easier for new-players.
We don't want to make game easier for new players or we do not want to make game harder for pro-players or both?

Re: Remembering of Locations of Oil Resources
Okay, you have got a point there. It is more of capturing oil derricks rather than searching for them (players who know the positions of all the oil derricks have a significant advantage than those who don't). And when talking about NTW style maps, you still need to build the oil derricks and a base before research gets on right? Okay I respect the Warzone research tree and find it a great part of the game but I think that oil derricks are usually what decides the winner in Warzone 2100 games as having more oil usually means a bigger army, a more advanced base, and more resources being able to be spent on research.
