"OpenGL 2.0 is not supported by your system"?

Post by gypakk »

Hi!
The newest version of WZ (Git, today) refuses to start. First, it changes the screen resolution to 800x600 (permanently), then it displays the message "OpenGL 2.0 is not supported by your system" and exits.

A few months WZ ran smoothly on the same notebook computer. What did I do wrong?

Intel Atom, Screen 1024x600, main memory 2 GB, operating system Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS. libgl version 7.7.1 is installed.

The only thing you did wrong was buy a netbook with a crappy gfx subsystem. ;)

What is the specific model of that netbook ?
You might try different video drivers to fix that, and if that isn't possible, then it seems your only option is you keep playing 2.3.9 for now.

Super busy, don't expect a timely reply back.

Hi, thanks for reply!
Does this mean I will have to stick to 2.3.9 from now on forever? :-(
My computer is an ACER EeePC. Never had any problems running WZ. OpenGL is installed and running. I still don't understand why the new WZ version does not start... Could it be a bug in WZ itself?

You said something about drivers. Can I change the video driver? There is a function "Hardware driver" in Ubuntu configuration menu, but no proprietary driver shows up in the list.

OpenGL is installed and running
OpenGL 2.0? ;)

P.S. The graphics card is probably Intel one, so rather no. There is only one intel driver for linux. At least when it doesn't come to ugly things like GMA500.

From the link above:

As has been said, many netbooks have extra cheap intel graphics cards that do not support programmable shaders (opengl 2.0 or directx 9), which are used by the current master versions. 2.3x uses legacy fixed-pipeline rendering which can be used by any graphics card no matter how crappy it is.
