WinXP Pro - 2.0.5 starts then Stops Responding when starting mission or tutorial
I have an aging but meaty homebrew machine. 3.0Ghz Prescott, 2GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (256mb) and Creatice Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. If it matters the hard disks are on a RAID array.
As the title says, the game runs, gets to the menu screen, starts to load a mission or tutorial, then just hangs. It doesn't crash out.
This is v2.0.5, downloaded approx 30 mins ago.
If this keeps up I will get my original cd's back out.
Any suggestions? I have removed and trace of WZ2100 folder in my docs and anywhere else I can find after uninstalling. And still it hangs.

check for an error message in the stderr.txt in the root folder of warzone 2100 2.05...

For some people the missing videos makes them think the game hangs while it does not.
Let me guess, you see a yellow or blue background?
Try pressing esc, enter or mousebuttons (I allways forget which of those buttons skips the videos).
If this works, that's why:
The videos were striped out by Eidos, probably because of size and because they didn't own the video-codec and thus were not allowed to GPL it. So currently Warzone just does nothing when it should play the videos. As scripts don't allow that we entirely skip them, we idle for a while. This can be interpreted as a hangup if you don't know what's going on.

when starting a tutorial it hangs at the progress bar. when starting a mission i get black screens with all the messages them it hangs at the progress bar again. windows task manager reports it as not responding. i am no my mobile right now but when i get back i will look at the log.
am i right in assuming that the 20mb download is the whole game, or should i be patching the original?

well as an update, I have re-installed, and patched to 1.10a, my original copy.

BTW, I tried running 2.0.5_rc1 and was getting the same problem. Orig Ver + 1.10a patch works, but I would really like to updte to the latest GPL release.

Startmenu -> Programs -> Warzone 2100 -> Warzone 2100 (right-click!) -> Properties -> Target/Destination (forgot how this is named in Windows).
Put whatever is currently there in "..."
Maybe this can help to shed some light on the problem.

Hmmm... Weird... Maybe a problem of/with the graphics driver? Most of them don't like WZ very much.
