Post by Freakyman »

Same problem here : I'm running WZ on an Ubuntu Intrepid desktop and another x64 Intrepid on my laptop. After having somes save game problems (game installed via the officical ubuntu repositories as a beta 3 which I uninstalled) I downloaded the official final 2.1 version, compiled it and it ran juste fine... Except for that soundtrack problem :

You are in an intermission briefing (reading up the text explaining what you have to do next) : a nice background music is playing. Then you start playing the mission, the briefing/menu music doesn't stop and the mission soundtrack starts playing over the previous one, it ends up like a cacophonia... Is there something to do (add/remove/change) in the config file or somewhere else ?

What sound card/chip do you have?

Do you use openal soft or ordinary openal?

Hello and Happy New Year !!!

Thanks for your answer, I'm playing on a Asus A7N8X-X mobo. The soundcard is the integrated one : NForce2 Audio (Realtek ALC650 chip)
lsusb gives :

Code: Select all

00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 IGP2 (rev c1)
00:00.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 0 (rev c1)
00:00.2 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 4 (rev c1)
00:00.3 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 3 (rev c1)
00:00.4 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 2 (rev c1)
00:00.5 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 5 (rev c1)
00:01.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 ISA Bridge (rev a4)
00:01.1 SMBus: nVidia Corporation nForce2 SMBus (MCP) (rev a2)
00:02.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)
00:02.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)
00:02.2 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev a4)
00:04.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Ethernet Controller (rev a1)
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP) (rev a1)
00:08.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 External PCI Bridge (rev a3)
00:09.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation nForce2 IDE (rev a2)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AGP (rev c1)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800 GT] (rev a1)
And I compiled WZ2100 v2.1 with the latest openal-dev/openal found on ubuntu universe repositories (libopenal-dev (1:1.3.253-4ubuntu1)).

What do you mean by "ordinary openal or openal-soft" ?

What do you mean by "ordinary openal or openal-soft" ?

openal is hardware only. openal soft is using a software solution to do the same thing.

Hello again,

I uninstalled my compiled 2.1 version of WZ (compiled with openal soft 1.3.253), uninstalled libopenal and libopenal-dev packages (purged & cleaned). I then compiled latest version (1.6.372) of openal soft (don't have a choice since I'm under linux) and installed it, recompiled WZ 2.1 and installed it... But still, the problem persists and seems to be the same than here :

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2056&p=19343&hilit ... nce#p19343

I really really love the game (used to play it on the playstation, I even bought a playstation mouse for it)...

Any ideas how to solve this (and don't tell me to play without music, that's not an answer) ?

I'm not a coder (I don't know how to code) but I'm ready to help solving that in any possible way. Thanks a lot.

Errr no, openAL is the API. It uses either hardware or software.
openALsoft is the replacement API that most every linux distro uses now, since the old API hasn't been updated...
and it ends here.

I noticed this awhile back. In short, it will not (AFAIK) be fixed in 2.1.

It is better to use a external player, and turn off music for now.

(Per, my fix has the music using a dedicated source, instead of getting a new source all the time.)
and it ends here.

Where is this fix and what is keeping it from 2.1?

Yes, publishing the fix would be cool...

It is going to be put up on trac, as soon as I finish this response.
I could of swore I had it on there before...

Anyway, it could be in 2.1, it is a rather simple fix, but I dislike 2.1, so that is why. :P

Yes & no. I am on the 'inactive' list for a reason. I am inactive. (read that is extremely busy with real life work)
That is why you don't see responses from me in a time fashion. Sorry.
