Unit design storage location?

Hey all
I posted up a little while about an issue with unit designs not saving in Skirmish games ( seems that some do, and some don't.
i wonder, is there a file where the unit designs are saved (like a JSON file or something?) and if so, can you use an editor to manually code them if you can find out what the various assets are identified as by the game....
i hate having to redesign the same units every time....
