so i installed 208 on friday, but it screwed up & i deleted the folder in order to reinstall.
but now there is no music.
uninstalled & deleted agen + redownloaded, but still no music.
was it left out or do i have a bug?
how can i fix it / add my own if possible.
i searched the forums for this info before posting, couldnt find much.

Re: where is the music?
If you want the music from the Retail game then download the CDs and rip the music into what, OGG?
The best thing to do when your philosophies don't stand up to debate is to lock the thread and claim victory.
Re: where is the music?
Downloading the game is illegal here in Germany and for sure in some other countries as well.
The in-game music wasn't released to the public with the source code release.
So, there isn't some music shipped with the game yet, but this will change in future.

the music was removed to make a smaller package... no one thought to remove the link...

Warzone won't be supporting MP3 in the 2.1.x series anymore. This mainly due to patent issues with it,psychopompos wrote: ah sweet.

This statements requires some additional explanation. The music wasn't provided along with the source code when it was released under the terms and conditions of the GPL. The reason for this seems to have been (as lav_coyote25 says) that the music would have increased the size of the package with source code. Unfortunately that leaves us in a legally uncertain position, where we actually aren't (explicitly!) allowed to distribute the music, this is the same as is the case with the FMVs. You'll find more talk about those FMVs on these forums (use the search) if you want to know more... (No! I'm not bringing this story up again, just providing a point of reference to search the forums for.)lav_coyote25 wrote: the music was removed to make a smaller package... no one thought to remove the link...
They're only on the original CDs, so unless you find some torrent or whatever (yourself) we cannot legally provide you with these. (Did I say I don't like copyright and patent law as applied to software?)psychopompos wrote: is there anywhere to dl an old version with the tracks? or dl said tracks in a single file?

"LAME mp3 decoder" or am i barking up the wrong tree?
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/fa ... m=lame-mp3
it was a post about not allowing mp3 that brought about my surprise at being allowed to use mp3
it was actually the music from the 208rc i was asking about, as i thought they went ok with warzone as its own entity.Giel wrote: They're only on the original CDs, so unless you find some torrent or whatever (yourself) we cannot legally provide you with these. that is why is asked for an old version, sorry for not being clearer.
*goes to dig out psx disk*
if could be useful if there was a link to a free program that allowed you to rip to ogg or convert to ogg.

Re: where is the music?
Actually it was more like no-one using mp3s (there was a vote), no-one complaining about a removal, libmad being a bit touchy when compiling and the simplified code, that lead to the removal of mp3 support for 2.1...
There was music in 2.0.8_rc1??? I built that myself and can't remember to have included any music...
You can use MEncoder or FFMpeg to encode to Ogg.
FFMpeg commandline could be for example: "ffmpeg -i yourfile.mp3 newfile.ogg"
For Windows there are lots of GUI tools to convert listed in the Heise directory.
An excerpt from the above directory (without any recommendation):
http://www.bonkenc.org/ - audio file converter - FOSS, GPL
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/ - CDEx, audio CD ripper - FOSS, GPL
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ - Bitexact copies of audio CDs - free as in beer
http://www.deepburner.com/ - DeepRipper, audio CD ripper - free as in beer
http://www.benware.de/index.php?site=ma ... ge=english - PowerEnc, audio file converter - free as in beer
If you can recommend a good tool (preferably FOSS, but at least free) to convert arbitrary audio files from and to Ogg, please give your input. (Comments on the above listed are also welcome. I didn't try any of them.)

Re: where is the music?
ah ok got ya.
there was definitely music with the d/l i got though...
and im pretty sure it was a wrp release...???
well. i found out the last game i played on my psx:lol:
and that the files are pretty much hidden. ah well. il find um somewhere.
-----------------
and to be further pain, sory bout this.
using the above instructions to create the music folder + .wpl file worked fine but for one point.
if i load a mid mission save, the designated track that was playing in the menu ends up on repeat in game.

Re: where is the music?
I think Rodzilla included some music from Neos/schombert.net (not specially made for Warzone, that's why you won't find them easily on the site) in the earlier releases, and modified the ending screen to give credit (and noone changed it back when the music wasn't included anymore). I guess the old 0.x releases which can still be found on warzone2100.sf.net do include those music files.
We want information... information... information.

Re: where is the music?
Ok, task open to anyone: Get that release where music was included, extract the files, convert to Ogg and create a wpl that works. I'll then commit it to SVN...

Who wants the music?
*** [link removed by kamaze] ***
Since in the original it just looped repeatedly, just open it in Media Player Classic and let it loop around. Or you can play it in winamp and use hotkeys to skip around to other music after you have had your warzone fill.
