Define "license". He can license his work as GPLv2, yes, but since he can break the contract at any time, it's not very binding, and thus can't be distributed with Warzone, since Warzone's GPLv2 is a regular binding contract.

That's also assuming his work is creative. As far as I know, translation isn't a creative work, and thus isn't subject to copyright, so it's just his maps and stuff we have to worry about.
TVR wrote:It's absurd, of course he can license it, just like he does for all his school work and presentations.
School work and presentations generally don't have any explicit license - schools just generally use them as they wish. Wonderful thing about common law - some things you never know if they're legal or not until after there's a lawsuit.

See, the problem is that it's illegal for you to do that. Well, not exactly illegal, it's just that it doesn't mean anything; it still isn't permanent.

We can use this in good faith, as even in the purely hypothetical scenario that the license is revoked in 4 years, we can simply comply with a cease-and-desist order and remove the offending material then.

Or you don't have to take his grant, he could simply immediately release it into public domain by self-distribution.
