Re: Wanting to model

Would it be possible to add a new option in game settings (video options, for example) to toggle between "basic or detailed buildings" - that way people with older machines could use low poly structures, people with shiny new machines could try out detailed high poly structures.

I'm not sure how the game engine works so don't know if this would be possible. But it might give the artists some extra flexibility to experiment with high poly buildings?

This is a diff topic sorta and i think the game checks data to make sure they match when multi playing..

Excellent idea though

Another idea is, when finished, I bake it into a lowpoly just like I did with Cathuria's hellstorm ;)
@Naiba: you're using sketchup, right? What are your export options? obj/3ds/dae would be nice.
Edit: Oh, and it's looking pretty nice so far :)

aubergine, yep, I've seen this idea already probably, but as pointed above it probably could be done safely (or easier) just for SP mode.
Still, I thing this is very good idea. ;-)
Though it would increase game size if shipped by default (could be downloadable content).

My understanding is that on MP mode the same mods need to be on all players machines. However, if the 3D models were part of the game - with one directory for low poly and one directory for high poly - then surely each player could choose which detail level they want? (as the models don't change gameplay IIRC?)

Use of some styles could be treated as cheating, but this mostly valid for FPS games (transparent walls, higher contrast, bigger models etc.)

IIRC they do, since models are used for collisions etc. So when the different machines use different models, such calculations can give differing results, and things break.

Exactly, someone could set bigger models for often used units type to make it easier to hit (like using bigger models in some FPS games, this is why the use Orb as model in Quake :-D).

Can't texture for anything useful, can't do organic shapes. (curvy stuff)

Somewhat disappointed with the lack of interest from last time.
why don't you fix viewtopic.php?f=33&t=6994?

I think he meant that you might be interested in making a model for the super transport, since vexed asked for finished models for inclusion into the next release.

I'm not sure. I know the height count for line of sight but is the width affect collision ?
