Pillboxes

Post by swatspeedman »

Having just aquired Blender, I thought I'd try something simple to model that I've yet to see any tries at. I decided to redo the pillboxes. However, I need to know some things. Firstly, peoples views upon these:

Which one do you believe is the right height for the pillbox?

Secondly, I plan on making inserts for the windows but should I add them to the mesh through verticies etc or bump map them?

Thirdly, how do you bump map on Blender 2.6? I can't find anywhere which explains it all

I've tried that, it doesn't tell you from the basic, it expects you to already know stuff and goes 'do this, this and this' without telling you how to.

EDIT: What currently doesn't have anyone working on? I need to learn how to use blender but there is no point in doing something that's already been done.

http://www.agenzasbrothers.de/tutorials ... orial-faq/ - the page is in German (and has pretty good video tutorials if you understand that), but there are links to English sites.

Everything has been done and nothing has been done you want to learn blender and add/enhance warzone there is no law to say you cant fix modify edit blpilbox.pie thats the thing here..
You can take a part of warzone and change it whether it gets used or not that cant be answered till you make/modify/edit it so go for the pilbpox s your first project..

Good luck From Berg

I agree you may want to start simple, but don't get offended if your first models don't get included, just make your own mod ;)
The hard part, however, may not be modeling, but texturing and uv mapping, so be sure to practice that.
Also, at some point you may want to look into a hipoly => lowpoly workflow, which allows for a lot of detail while preserving a low polycount (if you do it correctly, that is)

As for what to work on, most of the second and third campaign stuff has yet to be remade. However, just make anything you feel like (a new gun design maybe?) and try to get a completed model included in a mod of your own. That way, you can start your next model with the experience of which stages the model will have to go through.

Also, if you need help/feedback, just post here, or feel free to pm me ;)

Yes, I don't understand texturing. Most tutorials are in Blender 2.4 which is no help as stuff is moved around. I also can't get it to stick up, it always looks flat. I understand UV mapping, how to mark seams and unwrap it.

I actually think that devs should add a "Learning" section to the Artwork forum... People want to help but don't want to learn... better post changed octagonal cylinder and say - I made a new bunker!

btw, there are plenty of sites on the internet that have lots of nice tutorials for you, just use the awesome search engine called Google.

Bull sh*t. I don't hate Jorzi, Olrox, Colditz, they actually do better than me and yes, I'm misanthrope.

I learned modelling before I started to post here something.
Berg, teach your son how to live and speak with other people.

You are not my son. Get your own Parents to teach you.

These is quite a lot of info around on how models/art/graphics are used in warzone2100.

Maybe a stinky that links a lot of the stuff together might be nice

That has always been a goal to aspire to being a teacher.

Some do it better then others and some people should not even try to teach

anyway I found a tutorial for blender I looked at some of it and it seems simple enough to understand

http://cgcookie.com/blender/get-started-with-blender/

I have the wzgm project wiki some of the info is relevant to this http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/wzgraphicmods/wiki/Dev
