Does your texturing tutorial include hi-poly baking? Otherwise I can propably do a tutorial about that as another part of my cannon tutorial... (when I have the time, that is)
Do you already have a model to do the texturing on or do you want me to send you my cannon .blend file?

Very quick hipoly model, propably works well enough for the tutorial :)

Edit: Both ways work, but when you need maximum control over your the polygon limit, I find it better to start with the lowpoly, in order to see what details can be incorporated into it with the current poly budget.
