Many other things to do and now christmas is approaching... But here is a wip-render screenshot of a lancer model, that I'm working on.

Nice, I like the conjoined hex tubes :)

I feel as if the turret itself is just a flat cardboard box, though. Needs some hipoly detail I think.

Good work, but looks a bit "Scavvy" to me - hehe maybe a scavenger rocket! But whatever the case thanks a lot for the contribution!

I did some high poly stuff, but nothing too advanced yet. The weapons are very small ingame though, so I'm not sure how much detail is really required :P You can also take a look at the source material, if you like: http://warzone.1oooo.de/lancer-highpoly-modified.7z

I would second all of that. :)

The galvanized sheetmetal texture of the barrels would also be the material of choice in the construction of Scav Shanty Towns, methinks. :hmm:

Your model has wrong smooth-shading on tubes. They are concave but not convex.
simple example of how tubes should look like viewtopic.php?f=33&t=4245&start=390#p83417

I had a look at the tubes and the problem turned out to be lack of consolidating edgeloops, resulting in normal interpolation over one fourth of the tube length.
Other than that, the new details already give it a much more advanced look. I think the scav appearance comes from the rusty paintjob, making it appear as if it was made of old reused steel plate, rather than being factory-forged.

Do you have a good idea how to fix the normals of the barrels?

The problem is the hi-poly model. I noticed you used the laplacian smooth modifier. To be honest I didn't even know such a modifier existed, must have been included recently. I'm not saying it should never be used, but you do lose some precise mesh control when using it and it produces some artifacts on the barrels.
I've attached an image of a more controlled way of getting the shape of the tubes. Note that I make extra loops around all important edges. This is to "contain" the smoothing inside that area.

Okay, I see. I have to get more familiar with smoothing groups. Here is also a shot of the lancer with additional details

And.... backed and textured. Some stuff needs to be fixed, but I wanted to show some progress  .

Nice details, but yeah, right now those specular highlights are a bit all over the place :P

Heh, that's just me setting blender to 5 million percent specularity to simulate a black hole exploding right in front of the tank  . Here is the *.pie and the texpages if you want to check it out: http://warzone.1oooo.de/lancer.zip

.

I get your gist. :D

However...

It is a Super Nova explosion that could have that effect. A Black Hole is an implosion with gravitatinal forces so great even light cannot escape its field at the event horizon. Which stretches to the max what I think I understand about cosmology.

Pun intended. Actually I'm a physicist. :D
