Simpler multi demolishing

Post by Emdek »

Currently to demolish large amount of structures you need to click each one, orders queue helps a bit in saving time, but not enough (and it looks like it has a limit, and it's easy to make mistake - maybe we could have an editor for orders queue in future?)...
So maybe it would be possible to use rubber band or selection with modifier key to select multiple structures to demolish? It would really help with recycling money from large mortar plants etc. (mostly buildings built on away missions in campaign).

Really.
It would really help me.
Until then, I will have to destroy my own structures.

Destroying multiple structures is the most tedious action in the game at this time. A fix for this would be awesome.

Maybe if you select the demolish tool and pick the first structure to demolish the tool remains selected?

Maybe structures can be tagged as "need to be demolished" using the tool and the nearest idle truck can perform it provided he's close enough?

Maybe the demolish tool can be used to "draw" a selection in which all structures are marked for demolition?

Oh, and this idea has already been proposed some times before, and from what I can remember, the devs only didn't make it yet because they didn't know how it could be done. I'm not attacking their skills, just mentioning that the idea was already proposed before - probably in january or february this year or something like that - and was already accepted.

If you search around a bit you'll find out what has already been discussed about that

Nope.
Just never got around to looking at this. I got more important things to fix before trivial stuff like this.

and it ends here.

"Most tedious action in the game"... "Trivial stuff like this"...

Me, I've taken a look at the relevant code before, but it's pretty messy stuff. I couldn't figure out how it left build mode after a build order was issued. I guess I can take another look at it.

Edit: Found it! I should be able to fix this, now. See #1820

Then I remembered wrong 8)

But hey, I'm talking about devs, bug - you're not red! :hmm:
Let's make a poll to see wether you're still a dev or not :lol2:

Damn, I thought I'd be the first with a star, lol XD

Nice!
Hope that it will be merged, but I guess that it will not go to 2.3.x?

The patch has to both compile and actually work before it goes anywhere. As you might guess from all the versions, it is a bit of a Work In Progress.

Thinking now... what about some dragging box.

Selecting areas to demolish using selection box. (Like when you select multiple units)

I believe there was a misunderstanding; everything compiles fine... (well, there was a compilation problem with patch #4 on Linux, but that's been fixed)

It's been committed to trunk and will be in 3.0 alpha 1 - r10766. We're discussing whether or not we want it in 2.3.1.
